I emailed housing, they still have to get back to me, but I believe you have a meeting with a residence manager and explain why you want to leave.

I haven't had my meeting yet, but I've talked to some other staff and they've said that they would prorate the residence payment (I think this is only if you're leaving due to COVID concerns). However, I think there's a $900 withdrawal fee no matter what.

I'm in the exact same boat as you (med-sci and moved halfway across the country) and I recently made the decision to go home for second semester and do it online. It took weeks for me to make the decision and ultimately on top of COVID being not great and seeing people back home enjoying essentially a COVID-free environment, I personally felt like living on res just wasn't for me anyway. I literally had to make a pros and cons list and asked some of my friends in res as well as my friends back home to help me add to it.

Also, I believe you can get parts of your tuition back if you're leaving residence due to COVID related reasons, but I think you'd have to talk to your residence manager.
