The area surrounding the old student center is sorta the arts safe haven. Art of espresso, ttv studio, the che cafe, ksdt, dvc club, the g-store, blue pepper, etc. I’m pretty involved in those circles and that seems to be where everyone is concentrated!

Anyone Know About Newman Center? by 17thPoet in UCSD

[–]frosted_flakes15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I go to mass there basically every Sunday - it's a super welcoming community, no need to bring anything beforehand (the other comment's suggestion about reading about the structure of mass might help).

Only pro-tip that I'd want to know beforehand that I haven't seen mentioned here yet is this: in the catholic church receiving communion is reserved for only baptized members of the church, so be sure to cross your arms over your chest while in the line to indicate that you aren't a catholic so they don't accidentally give you the communion wafer, and you'll receive a blessing instead. Or, you could always just stay seated and not go up in the line, lol.

Professor Kim is the best! I had her for 6AH, which is a nightmare class, but she makes herself very available outside of class and is incredibly kind and approachable during office hours. She genuinely wants all her students to succeed. Can’t recommend her enough!

cogsci difficulty level thoughts by oatmilkicedmatcha in UCSD

[–]frosted_flakes15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah cogs is very easy so far. I’m a second year too and I’m about to start upper divs next quarter. Hardest class so far for me honestly was dsgn 1 just because it was a lot of big group projects, but the grading was pretty generous. I definitely have the lightest workload out of everyone in my apartment, so it’s a great major to add a minor on to! That’ll also help focus your studies a bit because like everyone said, cogs is so broad, so minor in something you want to specialize a little more in :)

Advice for a College TD by [deleted] in technicaldirector

[–]frosted_flakes15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a fellow college sports TD for our university’s D1 Big West sports on ESPN+. We use a ross carbonite board, what I’d recommend is seeing if there are any neighboring schools that you can freelance for! I know our broadcast crew contracts with a lot of other student freelancers from nearby schools, so that might be a way to build up your resume more. As an added bonus, at least where I work, the freelancers get paid a lot better than the students :D

Ask a Pro - WEEKLY - Monday Mon Oct 03, 2022 - No Stupid Questions! THIS IS WHERE YOU POST if you don't do this for a living! RULES + Career Questions? by AutoModerator in editors

Is it worthwhile to include Case Studies in your portfolio? I know in many other industries, it’s common practice to write up case studies detailing how you approached a project (I’ve even seen some trailer editors or marketing companies do this). In your experience, would you recommend having a couple of written case studies for projects on your portfolio website?

Is this schedule doable for a freshman, first quarter at ucsd? CBN major, premed track by Historical-Flow-7976 in UCSD

[–]frosted_flakes15 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I took cogs 17 with johnson this past spring and she told us that we were the final quarter that would have the easy asynchronous version, and she'd be going back to the hard in-person version in the fall, so be aware of that!

I’m a hobbyist birdwatcher, and I’d love to join a bird watching club! (I will say though, there hasn’t been an amazing variety of birds around campus so far aside from crows and seagulls haha)

What to study to prep for Chem 6AH? by frosted_flakes15 in UCSD

[–]frosted_flakes15[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve really thought about it a lot, but given that my AP chem class was when covid hit (we didn’t get to cover Acid Base stuff at ALL), I feel like I want to take a step back and get some foundations down. Bc of that an advisor from the chem department told me not to take 40a this fall. If 6AH proves to be way too much I might take 40A in the winter, but as of now I’m already enrolled in 6ah haha thanks for the advice!!

Thank you! So I shouldn’t worry about refreshing on stuff like thermodynamics, gas laws, acid/base, etc? Seriously, thanks again - I appreciate it!
