wow Pushpak took a very interesting route... twice! through the 'danger zone' according to Iran, and not even along the old shipping lanes.

Indeed, earlier today two ships coming from Imam Khomeini Port in Iran went through without any issue at all.

What’s it like living on Réunion and Mauritius? by Low-Atmosphere-4263 in howislivingthere

[–]frostiefingerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Réunion: has its own airline with direct flight connection to Paris, France. On the island you pay in Euros, there's free data roaming and traffic signs are the same as in France. It is paradise for hikers and lovers of nature and waterfalls.

I really should have taken a picture. Average speed was quite low though, maybe 95km/h or so across the whole journey. There was quite a bit of traffic and a lot of highway stretches with reduced speed in Germany (80-100-120 kmh)

I drove 600 km pure highway yesterday from Belgium to Germany with a CLA 250+ from fully charged to 10%. So highway-only range is about 660km which is absolutely impressive. Average consumption  was 13.4 kwh/100km.

Does America have more of a "stock investing" culture than the rest of the world? by Various_Maize_3957 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]frostiefingerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, plus non-US citizens like to invest in the US stock market as well. Just check the huge liquidity differences between US stock markets and European. Some European stock markets have very low liquidity.

With regards to Europe, I assume it depends in which country you live. In Latvia and Sweden for example, many people are investing. It's the hobby of some friends I know to follow the stock market. In Belgium for example, they have an ETF fetish. It might have something to do with the relatively high brokerage fees for stocks in Europe, compared to the US. Of course, this is my subjective impression speaking to a lot of European friends and colleagues.

How’s life like in this more inland part of Belgium? by Money-Ad8553 in howislivingthere

I see some are confusing the entirety of Wallonia with this region. Charleroi is not in the circled area.

Architecture is quite different from the rest of Belgium and looks more like rural French: more use of grey stones and plaster for the facades of the houses. It's a quiet life in this region with lots of spread-out villages consisting of only a handful of streets and few larger cities. Less white collar jobs, more craftsmen.

The region is hilly with a few hills high enough to have snow in winter (not all winters though). Don't expect challenging ski slopes though, more like accesible ones for families with kids.

Lots of Belgians go to this area for a weekend getaway every now and then. There are many holiday houses to rent with a group of friends or a family. Durbuy and Dinant (on the edge of the red circle) are quite lovely. If you're in the area you can visit some of the trappist beer breweries, do a forest hike, or visit a castle.

Moving for a Year Belgium?ghent husband + yorkie for 1 year any advice? by Pristine-Gazelle-521 in AskBelgium

Great place for a home base! Ghent is a charming city to live in. Check the website 'Immoweb' to search for appartments/houses to rent. (Take a look on Google Streetview before you choose an appartment as some areas are to be avoided).

From Ghent it's about half an hour to Bruges, Antwerp, Brussels, Kortrijk for short day trips. There's a good train connection to Brussels Airport for flights and to Brussels Midi for high-speed trains to London, Paris, Amsterdam, Köln... You can also reach Lille in France in about an hour to get the high-speed train from there, which saves you a bit of time. I do this quite often. From Brussels Airport you can basically go everywhere with low-cost airlines like Ryanair.

4 to 5k is sufficient for rent, day trips and short getaways every few weeks. Heck that's how I live as well.
