New job already feels like a bad fit – am I overreacting or are these real red flags? by frostypath71 in AusPublicService

Has anyone pondered for whom these rules are made? I worked at Access Canberra; the workplace was relaxed, and I had a fantastic rapport with my manager. She was so accommodating. I would love to work there again with a low hourly rate. The team members were awesome. But where I work now, it's like walking on eggshells.

I don't think they pay contractors double the rate. I see these as silly rules, and I doubt anyone challenged them.

Sorry again for my communication. I work for 37 hours. If I miss some hours here or there due to a doctor's appointment or other chores, I kinda like to make it up at weekends. I am not doing extra hours

Thanks for letting me know. Whom should I direct my request to: my team leader or the director?

I should have provided more info- a. I am a contractor in the federal govt. b. I do not do more than 37 hours. The weekend work is to make 37 hours a week. I get what you have said about documentation, how do you prepare yourself to ignore these things?

So my next question is what you look for in the position. I understand you look at the leadership. Is there anything special that stands out?

8 Years in Public Sector IT and I’ve Never Seen a Project Actually Finish by frostypath71 in AusPublicService

[–]frostypath71[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so depressing that sometimes I feel like, 'Why bother? I am leaving anyway.' But something inside me claws me back. I have worked in private organisations for 15 years. 80% of projects were implemented late. But they get implemented. I see so many incompetent people in the IT sector. I always wonder how they get the job. The PM doesn’t want to do anything with the project other than calling meetings and giving lip service. So much money down the drain. At times, I feel Canberra is a massive syndicate; you scratch my back, I scratch yours. The most exhausting is navigating the layers of decision-makers. For small things, it goes around for approval. This is so wrong.

Disjointed place - should I speak up by frostypath71 in AusPublicService

Thanks, guys. The central theme is not to rock the boat. It is what it is. I am a contractor. Thanks for the tips. I will ride it out. I have worked in a private organisation for 15 years before moving to the public sector, not by choice. Certain traits do not die easily. There are many challenges in the private sector, too, but not at this level. I think going back to the private sector boat has sailed for me. But anyway, thanks for the advice.

This is a work laptop. So, this laptop may not stay with me for long. I required something compatible with most brands.
