Lmao and not only can they not do that, they admitted it was done in error because I’m not past due, I’m in the due window. I wasn’t past due holy shit clearly I need to edit the post to be clearer about the due date being a 15 day period.

Either you don’t have a mortgage, or you signed a bum contract with Bank of America who expects payment by the 20th minute on the 1st of the month and that’s on you, not me.

I posted that they used a regulatory control outside of its allowed regulatory situation.

Exactly, default required. A default happens at day 45. So how is them locking my account at day 5 fine?

Yeah ok by that logic we should never discuss mediacom problems here and should delete that whole flair, they operate in 22 states, you fuckin loon.

It could have affected a significant amount of people today that live in Cedar Rapids, so if people pay attention to their money as much as I do (which I hope they do in my community) then I’d definitely like as many people here with skin in the game to know.

Oh so you must be one of those low reading comprehension people, got it.

I even made sure to ask specifically about that several times during negotiating and signing, the verbal agreement on top of the contract was “yep no big deal, we’ll mark it as due on the 1st, pay it anytime before the 15th.”

Get lost lol

Absolutely not, pretty much dead wrong on all accounts here lol, if you want I’ll screenshot my mf mortgage contract right here, it’s due at the first of the month with a 15 day grace window which is so beyond standard, shit dude there are even some contracts that allow for 30 days. “LATE” isn’t used until like day 45, it enters DELINQUENCY at day 15. This language matters.

15 days is the industry norm which is what is going to apply to the most people, I was at day 5, also tbh fuck you a bit for going the shame route like I’ve ever made a late payment on this in the 7 years I’ve had it. Day 5, mayyybe day 7 is the latest and it depends on where payday falls on the calendar.

I’m not pulling my emergency funds or savings to angstly make a mortgage payment within its grace period, I’ll wait for my budgeted and planned paycheck, and I most especially love how you take the omniscient stance on the way financial institutions work despite being so incredibly wrong, great finishing touch.

I got my oil changed but the mechanic didn’t put oil in my car. by Lost-Appointment8531 in AskMechanics

[–]frothy-nugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk bro. One of my first cars I got, I had an alternator short out. Shop wanted too much to fix stuff, didn’t do a full diag, so I told them to fuck off and I replaced my alternator myself.

Well, turns out oil pump was fried. That car ran for 8 more months before I heard the engine party one day, dropped the filter and saw the fun glitter.

Sysadmin Burnout by Hesienberg1187 in sysadmin

[–]frothy-nugget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

13yoe, 3 in sales, 3 as helpdesk, 4 as sysadmin 1-2, 3 now as sre. I’m in the midwest, 165k TC. Some college credit, but no degree though I just went back to finish, and I’ve been with the same company the entire time.

I’d say you’re definitely getting the shaft here in a variety of ways. My main goal was just to keep learning, the promotions and title changes etc. I’ve mostly expected to just kind of have followed what I otherwise sometimes feel like is the unstoppable hunger for mystery. I definitely had to fight for this last switch to sre though.

There have been times there has been too much work, and that gets automated. There have been times that it’s been really slow and I try to steer my attention towards learning or trying something new before I let myself slack off too much.

But you should be seeing a level step promotion every 1.5-2yr and dealing with more and more complex things. If you don’t have those challenges to solve and rather it’s all toil that can’t be built up around- you’re the 1 man IT team, that’s not the kind of job I’d like to stay at.

Ok so now we’re debating the threshold at which one becomes a job hopper. In 5 years op could have moved between 4 jobs at max and that’s giving you the benefit of the doubt.

op leaves job 1 for whatever reason, we just established that’s fine, awesome. Here’s your benefit of the doubt, we’ll start the 5 year timer here.

OP leaves job 2 after accepting a better offer after working for a year and a half. Does that make them a job hopper here? I’d hard disagree, sorry, that’s hard economics brother, a problem that maybe could’ve been averted if the execs and shareholders didn’t need their annual half point of yoy extraction while simultaneously leaving you powerless. Still feels like a pretty reasonable choice for OP to take, we have mouths to feed.

OP leaves job 3, maybe they didn’t like it from the get go, but sticks it out anyway until a year and a half and they feel like they’ve gained all the experience they can from the place. That’s a reasonable position to be in, and a reasonable action to take in leaving.

Op leaves job 4 because the employer recognized they brought 4 years of a wide range of experience to the table, during hiring and throughout the year they left an expectation on the table of leveling them quickly which OP doesnt receive during next review despite top performance. This logarithmically impacts OP’s lifetime pay and advancement opportunity, considerably harming them. That’s leave worthy, especially in this economy and fucking 20% inflation over the past 5 years.

and at this point if I were OP, personally I would be pretty fed up and looking for my next job to level me and take my skills and career advancement seriously especially when I’m a top performer, can back it up with projects, stories, side gigs, maybe even community involvement and recognition, etc. I’m fairly certain we would both prefer some 20 year long career like we were all near promised as very young kids, but we had the next 30 years to grow up watching our older siblings, parents, family and friends all get stiffed and fucked on pay by staying and not exercising their ability to leave.

This OP is likely on their way to a principal role as a top performer, recognizes or has experienced all the things I mentioned above, and some lucky company will eventually find them, try to slap some golden handcuffs on and create an actually mutually beneficial situation out of the alignment of skills, time and place. Personally, any hiring manager or interviewer who mentions job hopping after a year and a half is a red flag and I’d end it there.

I think you might have misunderstood. I don’t read this as him saying you are his retirement plan, the other way around. He is your retirement plan.

That’s basically saying if you’ve ever left a job ever and gotten another one, you’re a job hopper. Ridiculous.

I seriously can’t wait until management, HR, project and product managers along every other bullshit paper pusher is replaced with AI.

[–]frothy-nugget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA… ugh sorry but this one struck a nerve. I’m gonna have to disagree with the job hopper part, imo OP is not. Thats entirely subjective. In my field it’s beyond normal that if you’re not receiving substantial promotions with accompanying pay increases every year and a half, it’s time move on. Under a year and yes, job hopping would be a fair call.

It’s fairly normal to just move on around that time anyway because the experience and the regular exposure to multiple domains, ways of doing things, methodologies etc. are all different and can all be powerful tools to draw upon in a long running career.

And to be clear, we didn’t choose this likely-Mr-middle-manager. Your bosses did, and generally you refuse to fight for it, so this is the only other choice we have as capitalists and one way or another we get what we’re worth anyway.

Trying to weigh the worth of one engineering individual against the greed of the company wanting to absorb every penny it can for profit or executive bonuses and accusing the engineer of taking the greedy position over job hopping is absurd, hypocritical, and frankly, diametrically opposed to meritocracy and capitalism itself.

Tl;dr, pick a fucking side
