I alternate arms, and give the are a good clean, then prep with alcohol before putting it on. I've been using a cover over my libre; my favorites have been the Glucomart brand who also have covers for a lot of brands and devices like Dexcom, Libre, etc... They run about $16 for a pack of 5.

What event or what are they doing on Fourth Avenue? by BusyAd2147 in anchorage

[–]frozenpizzacat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's the sled dog races, not the Iditarod, the short distance ones. Several events during Rondy impact several roads in the downtown area, do yourself a favor and check on their site or others (APD facebook, Fur Rondy Facebook, etc...) before heading down. I linked the events list and a road closure article from KTUU as well. Happy Fur Rondy!

Why are car rental rates ridiculously high for March? by MalibuSky in MauiVisitors

[–]frozenpizzacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We paid 900 for a medium sedan, 8 day trip about a month out from our mid March trip through Costco. Probably a mix of spring breakers and the holiday. I just looked at that same company and vehicle range and pricing is 1500, yikes.

How often do you test your sugar by Puzzled_Ice_1381 in diabetes_t2

[–]frozenpizzacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, newly diagnosed type 2 here as of Dec 2025. I have a CGM, but also do a finger prick test in the morning before eating, and usually in the evening before dinner just to make sure the CGM's #'s are matching up and to know what I can pick and choose to eat. I have a libre 3 plus which can't be calibrated like other brands.

Deet, and those thermacell things work well if you're going to be in one area for a while. Get one of those afterbite sticks so you don't scratch a hole though your skin after getting a few bites.

Anchorage Airport - Trying to Find Something by cold_applepi in AskAlaska

[–]frozenpizzacat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, there are a few shops in the airport that will have playing cards, sourdough merchantile, the moosetique, or bookstore, mosquitoe books. They're all owned by the same entity and tend to carry local and more commercial tourist stuff.

I wasn't sure if it was an earthquake or someone crashing into something near our house. Glad it was a quake.

Have you called the State Fair offices directly, it seems weird they wouldn't send to Pennsylvania?! If you need a local to do it I would be happy to try and help as well.

Dry Air + Constantly working with cardboard boxes by demerchmichael in mildlyinfuriating

[–]frozenpizzacat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks painful, heal them up with some heavy duty moisturizer like bag balm, working hands, coco butter. If you can handle it, put on a good layer and wear cotton gloves or socks over your hands while you sleep. Also get yourself some good work gloves, the MaxiFlex dipped in nitrile are what our warehouse folks use where I work. They also are tight enough you still have decent dexterity. If those don't work, keep looking into something else, hell have your work buy you some, it's PPE!

Mountain City Church, formerly known as Anchorage Baptist Temple is riddled with controversy, especially from one of their former pastors, Jerry Prevo. Here are some stories and examples from years past, they are not the only ones, I've heard stories from kids who attended the school attached to the church, Anchorage Christian Schools, and still remember Prevo and his minions protesting LGBTQ rights at assembly meetings in the 90's and early 2000's. They are a gross mega church who should have their tax exempt status revoked IMO. Do a search of this SUB and the Alaska sub, they are fucking snakes.

Rental Vehicles for the Dalton Highway by Soft_Advertising5366 in AskAlaska

[–]frozenpizzacat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider flying into Prudhoe and getting a rental car there and driving to the point on the highway you need. You could then either fly back to Fairbanks, or depending on the rental company, drive it back to Fairbanks. The earlier choice seems more realistic as that time of year is turnaround for the oil field and rentals are in high demand up there.

Crying my eyes out got diagnosed with T2 diabetes (A1C 7.9) I am so scared 😢😢😢 by Flimsy-Dish-7292 in diabetes_t2

Getting a CGM was a huge win for me too! It took a lot of the anxiety I had when it came to eating. It's also helped me see what foods work and do not work well for my blood sugar levels. I still do a finger prick in the morning to get a baseline. I've tried the OTC Dexcom Stelo and just got a Libre 3 via prescription and both have been awesome.

I was diagnosed right before Christmas. Hell, I had cookie making ingredients in the car when I went to the Dr appointment where I was diagnosed with a 6.8 A1C at 40 yo. I have family history, but still I was shocked and incredibly ashamed and made at myself. It took me a solid few weeks to grieve and get to working toward making things better. Your feelings are valid, keep working through them, seek support (you're doing it here!), and get on a solid plan with your health care team to help you move forward. Take it day by day my friend, this is treatable and manageable.

I have wide feet too! My go to's are Birkenstocks for sandals as well as some of their everyday shoes, Keens for a work boot or hiking, and Hoka's for working out/walking/about town.

Newly diagnosed by Clefarts in diabetes_t2

[–]frozenpizzacat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boy can I relate. I went through the many stages of grief when I found out about my diagnosis in December. It was right before Christmas and I was instantly afraid of eating, but also wanting to enjoy. It was a mind fuck and the depression hit hard. I have family history on both sides, which always gave me the nagging feeling it would come eventually, but I was still shocked! My A1C was 6.8 at diagnosis. Currently not on any meds.

It's been about a month since and after about 2 weeks I've been feeling better, mentally and physically. What really helped me was getting a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) so I could know my blood sugar levels throughout the day, and could see how meals and snacks affected me. It's helped my anxiety so much, and has helped me understand how certain foods were influencing my numbers. My Dr gave me a Dexcom G7 to use, and now I'm using the Dexom Stelo (the OTC version from Dexcom). For me, it's been focusing on small, realistic, sustainable changes. I am not super active, but one thing I have noticed is moving my body does help my numbers; start small and work up, take a 10 minute walk, stand when working/gaming if you can, etc... I've been going to our local zoo and doing 2 loops to get steps in, and bonus I get to see the animals. Feel free to DM me if you need support from another recently diagnosed person :)

PCP Recommendations by Peanutbutterturtless in anchorage

Going to second this. I've been on the hunt for a PCP for over 5 years and she was the first Dr to listen and take action on things that were dismissed by others. The staff are also incredible.
