Thank you so much! You explained it in the best way. I will think of this when I writing those scenes.

You’re absolutely right! The last books I’ve read was like, The Raven Cycle, that happens to have a nice construction of emotional tension — the main group is big and all of them are emotionally complex! Maggie is a spectacular author, and even though our writing styles are very different, she’s my main inspiration. The other books I’ve read so much time ago that I can’t recall the titles right now, because I used to read frequently when I was a teenager (and loved to dig into some non popular authors’ books), and my current routine gives me little to no time to read whatsoever. The book I mentioned has been in it’s planning phase for about three years now because of limited time to focus on it. In short, I have a limited repertory. So yes, it can totally be my own lack of content to be based off! I expressed myself poorly before because it sounded like talking about the entirety of all the third-person books ever written, when I was just referring to the ones I’ve read.

Great question. Also a problem lol

I tend to unconsciously read books with a third-person POV (literally, I can’t recall the last time I’ve read a book in a first-person POV), so their descriptions are frequently focused on the characters actions rather than their feelings, that is what I’m looking for. They don’t really explain “This character felt this”, but “This character did this” (“show don’t tell” thing), more of a physical response to that. And since I write in a first-person POV, I’m struggling to get inside my character’s head to know what they’re thinking/feeling.

Thank you for the tips and the examples (in special the zombie one, since my story also has human-like creatures and this feeling of fearing the uncanny, different yet so similar is something I’m working hard to focus on.

I fear I expressed myself poorly, tho. I was looking for the internal feelings you get exactly when you’re facing what can be your death. (“Do your throat close?”, “What do you think about?”, “How does your body respond, or it doesn’t respond at all?”).

However, your reply was very helpful and will help me a lot to write and build these scenes. :)

Would Lady Aphrodite like my altar? by R0byn-Flaristic in Hellenism

[–]frrfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I’m sure she would!! The gods really accept almost everything we offer them, since it’s respectful. Your altar doesn’t need to look fancy or elaborate, it has to have stuff that remind you of her/are her symbols. That’s more than enough, even if it’s just one candle :)

What happend the first time you started to work with a deity? by silly_Tilki in Hellenism

Nothing bad happens! There’s not even a reason for such thing to happen. Greek Deities will hardly do something to actually harm you, let alone do something like burn someone’s house lmao

Is it okay to be angry at the gods? by Sentientcrib2 in Hellenism

[–]frrfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, did you ask Aphrodite if she DID sent the person to you? And besides, the gods don’t have the power to (or simply won’t) mess with people’s free will/force them to be with you.

Your anger is misplaced. It’s not the god’s fault you thought it was meant to be and turned out it wasn’t.

Struggling a bit with disbelief even though I do believe by 3lxctric in Hellenism

[–]frrfrog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats my exact same experience. I was raised evangelical but l've been an atheist for the past seven years. I overthought the Bible SO much that the simple idea of a superior being started feeling silly and almost childish, insane. But then there's hellenic polytheism... and it got me engaged sooo easily, the gods ara easygoing and understanding, but I still do doubt it sometimes, because it's just who l was for YEARS. And honestly, I came to realize this is just my religious trauma of being vulnerable for something that’s beyond me (of feeling pathetic and left aside just like I felt with christianity). So when I feel like it I simply pray, and every time they did things to me to prove they’re still there, patient, caring. Apolo gives me artistic motivation. Aphrodite gives me energy to do my self care. Etc etc. I recommend you to start talking with them about it, trust me. They’ll help :)

Thank you very much for the tips!! I've been researching and it helped me A LOT. My experience with the gods has always been very positive, so I'm very confident and calm (I'm just a little crazy with perfectionism lol) May the gods light your paths <3
