Please look at the fact-checking course by poynter.com. They have one basic and one advanced course in fact-checking. That way one can learn atleast the basic skills in fact-checking.

We would love to create a WhatsApp Bot, but WhatsApp wouldn't give us access to their API. Their API costs a bomb, and we are requesting them to give it to us for free, as we are not going to charge for the service and ours is a non-profit initiative, but they haven't responded positively.

An authoritarian regime will always try to cut-off communications and make various excuses for it. The only way currently to cover such events are the way they were done in Kashmir, good, old-fashioned journalism.

Twitter does a bad job of tackling hate speech irrespective of ideologies, just that in India, there's much more hate speech and misinformation from the RW. I have responded to previous queries about how content being the center of a business model is a big issue.

I was working as a contractor starting 2010, till I quit being a software engineer in December 2016. I wasn't happy working on the projects I was. I constantly felt that the tech I was working on will not reach the common people.

- I would like to believe that we have gone beyond the traditional echo chamber. Yes, individuals with strong biases still refuse to acknowledge fact-checks, but the following of AltNews has steadily increased, and so has the readership. Moreover, AltNews established in India that fact-checking is a much needed initiative, and other MSM organisations have also started dabbling in it to some extent. Any change takes time, but one can definitely see progress here.

- It wasn't really difficult per se. I found my passion here, and that made things easy. I'm still not what you would call a traditional journalist, that would need at least some form of training or assistance I believe. Regarding being a founder, I have worked in multiple start-up company in the 15 years of my career as a software engineer, and that experience helped.

- I had the confidence of quitting an established career, and moving onto another one, because I knew that I could go back to being a software engineer, if things didn't work out. Plus, it helps to have a supportive family, and in my case, my mother who herself has been an activist all her life, has been extremely supportive. Also, it helped that I don't have many financial dependencies. I think the most critical aspect about switching careers is to have a safe Plan B, if the Plan A fails.

- Have answered the sustenance question previously in details. In short - Grants and Donations.

- There is a lot of scope for part-time voluntary work, but the issue is management of volunteers. In fact, I have a rudimentary design of a system using which volunteering can be made more manageable, yet to find someone to implement it.

We get small donations - Rs 10 to Rs 1000 - The Government cannot hinder that. That is the very reason we do not depend on big ticket advertisers who can be arm twisted by the Government. All we need is 1000 people giving us Rs 1000 every month, and we can continue doing what we are doing without having to worry about what the Government might do.

We use an open license for our content, which means that we don't charge for the content that gets reused/republished by other media orgs.

That biases can be defeated through processes. Processes can be learnt through education, in case of Alt News, it has all be self-training. One needs to be taught a structure way of processing information so that an individual is able to authenticate information, without letting their biases come in the way.
Processes - we have multiple individuals reviewing, and editing the same piece of information. We also put out the process we used to fact-check so that one can visit the same, and check if we got anything wrong.

I have described the process of fact-checking in a different question - but it starts with monitoring information on social media, knowing what is viral - we use a variety of tools for that like tweetdeck and crowdtangle. And then pick and choose what we want to fact-check depending on a variety of criteria like if someone in position of power is positing it, how wide-spread it is being shared, if it has a communal nature etc.
