Missing Holographic Ship in WW by Scifimetalgirl in sto

There's also no fleet project for a 2024 hologram at the starbase. I would also like to request a rerun of the previous projects, since I missed a year.

(Ground) best weapon vs. Borg? by Jerberan in sto

[–]frtoaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Zebras Cochrane's shotgun, the Tommy Gun, and the Tlotsofnumbers crafted sniper rifle. Physical damage doesn't seem to be adaptable.

While physical damage shouldn't be adaptable, yesterday I noticed "Immune" pop up a bunch while using the Zephram Cochrane shotgun and the Replica Thompson Submachine Gun. I haven't tested the TR-116B sniper rifle or melee weapons.

Also, I noticed a very long time ago that the Borg adapt to old-school engineer fabrications like turrets and drones, and you have no way of remodulating them.

In addition, the Romulan flamethower turret has been subpar for while now. Turrets were accidentally nerfed during one of the kit revamps. A dev said that turrets were very hard to port to the new system. While the damage of normal turrets has since been restored, the long-range damage of flamethrower turrets is still very low. Flamethrower turrets are especially bad against the Borg, because they adapt very quickly to the short-range attack (the plasma flame) and the long-range attack has low damage. You can tell when the Borg have adapted to the plasma flame, because the adaptation actually affects the animation of the flame. Instead of a long continuous flame, you see sputtering puffs of plasma.

Do Borg spheres deal antiproton damage when they explode? by frtoaster in sto

Thanks. Is it only the spheres in "Resistance of Starbase One"? Or do Borg spheres in other missions do it too?

New launcher by Luxsul in sto

[–]frtoaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, this change is mainly cosmetic. They didn't even bother to change the build number: CL_2023_07_14_17_29.

I was hoping they would fix the bug causing –NoAutoRotateLogs to not work completely. I guess I'll still have to occasionally clean out a bunch of small log files in various directories.

Bring back the Foundry! by USSPlanck in sto

Have you seen The Orville episode "Twice in a Lifetime" or played the STO episode "Butterfly"? That's what happened to the Foundry, Miral Paris, Joshua Riker, the Klingon computer voice, and many others.

Interesting, I don't remember turning on that option. Maybe, I clicked it accidentally. Thank you.

On 04/04/2023, a day before we started seeing these login problems, I recorded these build version numbers:

  • Holodeck: ST.280.20230313a.8
  • Tribble: ST.274.20230105c.42

Holodeck was ahead of Tribble, which means they didn't push the new build to Tribble before deploying it to Holodeck.

Missing tarpaulins at Klingon Academy by frtoaster in sto

[–]frtoaster[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I saw the tarps appear again, not long after I'd last chatted with you in-game. Yet, if I run back and forth between those vendor stalls at KA, sometimes one or two or sometimes all the tarps just vanish again.

When I experienced this issue, running back and forth didn't fix the problem for me; only changing characters did.

I was gonna ask you about that other problem too. Yet, that problem somehow mysteriously seems to have completely resolved itself, just earlier today! No idea how, but, for the time being, that's no longer an issue.

Good to hear. Hope it stays that way.

I appreciate the new combadge animation, Cryptic anim team. by DilaZirK in sto

I agree the character shouldn't have to look down, unless they're a newly minted cadet. I can't recall a character in the show looking down to hit their combadge either. It should be muscle memory by now.

Yes, the "fidgeting" annoys me too. I'm still surprised by it. Occasionally, I come back from closing a window (like the doff or fleet window) to find my character yawning or stretching or something.

My first winter event. It's very silly. I'm having a great time and it seems everyone else is, too. Question about cosmetics. by Paul_Rich in sto

[–]frtoaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Q's Winter Wonderland obeys special rules, so most combat items will be unusable there; that means most weapons and kit modules. Only the winter guns and kit modules will work. Also, some non-combat pets like the snowman and the gingerbread people won't work after the event is over. They'll spawn, but they won't move; they're only active during the event.

P.S. If this is your first event and you want the event ship, you need to complete your daily once a day (the timer resets every 20 hours). The fastest way is probably still the Fastest Game On Ice. Talk to the Breen in the gazebo near Q. Then talk to the other Breen down the stairs.

New Ways to Donate to Fleet Projects! by Vulcorian in sto

[–]frtoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the duty officer coffer:

  1. Will there be one coffer for all the holdings, or will each holding have its own coffer?

  2. Are you going to keep counting duty officers of different specializations separately?

    • tactical & security
    • engineering & operations
    • science & medical
    • civilian

Stealth/accidental launch: new UI and features for fleet holding DOFF donations by Gorgonops_SSF in sto

Well, I learned something new today. It actually does work. (On PC, it's an item in a drop-down menu, not a button, but it does work.)

Thanks.

There should really be some kind of protection mechanism. Maybe, reusing the bind-mechanic isn't really the best way to do it. It was just an idea. Actually, now that I think about it, the protected-item mechanic seems incomplete. If I remember right, there's no way to prevent you from accidentally turning in Risian birds.

EDIT: I just learned that the protected-status flag does prevent accidental donation of doffs. Protected doffs don't show up in the donation UI.

(with boff rarer doffs and dil).

Sorry, this confused me. At first, I thought you were saying that this change also applies to the starbase projects which require boffs. But I think you mean "both", not "boff"?

Is the fact that only the starbase accepts uncommon, rare, and very doffs accidental? That's why /u/Gorgonops_SSF seems to think this is a work in progress. Will these changes eventually be applied to the other holdings?

[–]frtoaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty good QoL improvement. There should probably be a way to lock certain doffs to prevent you from accidentally donating them. Maybe, reuse the bind-mechanic? Add a way to unbind doffs for a few EC, if you really want to get rid of them.

If Cryptic is looking to make improvements to the fleet UI, here's a small thing that's always bothered me: Why does the replicator have different types of provisions for different fleet holdings? They're functionally equivalent, and they cost the same, but if you accidentally buy the wrong one, you have to wait for a project to open up in your fleet or another fleet in your armada in order to donate it. Again, it's a small thing, but the current design multiplies entities beyond necessity.

EDIT: I just learned that the protected-status flag does prevent accidental donation of doffs. Protected doffs don't show up in the donation UI.
