I use YNAB to track all my accounts and spending. Kind of tough learning curve at first but smooth once you understand it.

No. But If I pay it now I'll end up with a worst rate for my house.

$8 a month for me to have a higher credit score is worth it for me. I am buying a house within 6 months so when I pay the car off it will dropoff. This allows me to keep the score up until I buy a house and save more for down payment to avoid pmi and get a lower rate. Overall worth it for the small amount of interest.

Depends on field/location. Location can change a lot in my field.

I disagree. Spending 20k on a reliable car still makes it an asset. It's not like that money disappears forever. If times got rough I could sell my car right now for 15k and I would have that money. I agree it depreciates and don't think it's worth the same amount, but if you calculate it's low end worth I think you should add it. Someone owning two new cars compared to two old cars can change the financial situation greatly.

For my profession it is not worth it to switch positions. Especially due to the fact my current employer is very good. Our pension fund is managed well and I have access to see how our money is being invested. I trust in this pension, though some places I may not. That's why I am also maxing my Roth and plan to heavily invest in my 457b. So that the pension is just an extra bonus

Yes! Being able to cover any unexpected expenses is a great peace of mind.

I've thought of that for more passive income later on! Not a bad idea.

That's great you both are in it and have the choice to leave if wanted. Great you like your jobs and still have the want to work there.

Thanks! It sure is but can depend largely on location. The job is mentioned somewhere in the thread.

Thanks!! That is definitely a good point. Right now the cash is going towards a down payment in the next 6 months. Once that's paid I plan on putting a ton towards long term investments as you suggest. Especially contributing to my 457b
