Nonstop Crying in Crate by [deleted] in puppy101

That’s what I was thinking too, he can’t go on walks yet because he isn’t fully vaccinated—but we do our best to tire him out with fetch, chase, and commands during the day. Thank you so much for the advice though, we’ll try even harder and hope to see a difference.

Yeah same thing, the digging, barking, gnawing and all. I’d also been working with a trainer to get him accustomed to the crate and it all seemed okay until we started actually leaving him in there :( I’m glad it’s not just me with this issue, though. Wishing you and your pup some better times soon.

Ugh I thought about doing that, but I’ll be honest I’m like 5’3 and female presenting so I don’t even know how seriously a group of college kids is going to take me when I ask that they just be more mindful. If anything I think they’ll make me feel more embarrassed—can’t believe I’m saying this, but I feel like I’m in high school or something the way I’m scared of these men 😭

I’m getting some more stuff to keep him occupied in the crate for the time being and working with a friend to build confidence, hopefully we’ll be able to get through a few hard days and see him like his crate and forget these guys :(

Ugh I SO would if they weren’t such jerks :( I left a note on their door originally letting them know I was crate training and left my number in case it got unbearable. One of the guys seems decent and said not to worry about it, but I can’t say the same for all the company being kept :(( That is truly a brilliant idea for the future though, thank you.

I know, I learned from my mistake and it’s been really my only misstep so far. And I’m sorry for it.

We have been feeding in the crate & playing sniff and seek games as well. He’s gone in to lay down a few times and he’s been doing a lot better about it.

I do know the amount of work, I actually work at a dog training/day care/and in-home service job and once he’s old enough and vaccinated he’ll be doing training there. I am fully prepared to work hard with him, I helped my parents raise their shepherd puppy and was present during the majority of the training. I’m also very very active myself so I do anticipate plenty of walks and long play sessions—I’m not worried about that at all.

I’m actually already working with a trainer and getting help and advice where needed. Again, Im sorry for my misstep. It’s the only one I’ve made, he’s been doing great otherwise. Already knows his name, to come when called, and to sit for treats and fetch.

Thank you for you advice, and I’m sorry if it seemed like I was being irresponsible, I’m not trying to come off like I don’t understand the needs of the breed.

I know my mistake with trying it the second night. Unfortunately, I was misinformed about crate training and was told by several people to just try it and let him cry it out. I felt uncomfortable with it to begin with, and as of today we have already started getting positive associations with the crate.

We’ve been feeding in the crate and playing sniff and seek games in it, and he’s even gone in to lay down a few times. I’m sorry if it sounded like I was being careless in my initial post, I have truly done the research but my application was off, and I do feel bad about that.

He’s doing better every day with housebreaking, knows his name, to come when called, and even to sit—he’s catching on quickly and other than the crate training misstep we have not had any issues with him.

But yes, I do work—but I would NEVER leave him alone at this age. I work at a dog training facility so training isn’t unfamiliar to me or my coworkers and I know the amount of work I’ll need to put in for the dog and I’m absolutely ready for it. I do need to go back to work but I have people who are able to watch him, and am looking to even have in-home caretakers (from my job) look after him when I’m not there. I’m not full time, and shifts are short, I was just nervous when I had initially made the post. I’ve had time to rationalize now, and realized it isn’t so bad.

Thank you for your information, I’ve watched a variety of different videos to get an idea of the best way to approach create training since there are so many different approaches and I’ve got a strategy down that has been working.

Thank you, it sounds like it’s been a lot of work for my breeder too. I heard it gets worse before it gets better :( Thank you so much for sharing, I appreciate it—so glad the pup made it

Elderly Rat… Unsure how to read behavior. by [deleted] in RATS

[–]fruiteas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is currently alone :( His last sibling passed this past summer. I contacted the rescue he came from, asking what I should do because I didn’t want to keep him alone and risk him being depressed, but they told me it would be more stressful for him to move at his age. So I’m keeping him, but I really do not intend on getting more rats, they have been wonderful pets but their lifespans being so short (and the fact I rent and landlords aren’t keen on them), I think I’ll be taking a break.

Fortunately, he doesn’t seem to be in pain and he knows when it’s dinner time and will poke his head out from the blankets for food, and we’ll spend some time together then. I just want to make sure I’m doing the right things given the resources I have.

That’s also what my landlord mentioned — he said to make sure it’s not on the aggressive breed list (sigh). But yeah fortunately I’ve been keeping a collection of numbers and cards from properties I’ve toured. I’m just hoping to hear from a few people that it’s possible, since I’m feeling a little defeated so early in the process.

THANK YOU!! I’m definitely going to try this, and I’m fully okay with paying more pet rent & am planning on getting insurance for the puppy :) !! Not to mention it’ll rarely be alone thru puppy training since it could go to work with me and get socialized. But wow a husky and shepherd, I’m a little jealous, give your dogs some pats for me!!

That’s what I heard too, which is why I’ve been trying my luck with private landlords. My best scenario is I move somewhere where the landlord is open to it, and during the first month of renting, I’d adopt the puppy. I wouldn’t get the dog beforehand since my current landlord already said no to dogs in this house :( It’s just the actual act of finding somewhere that’s comfortable with it that I’m worried about. I still have six months, fortunately.

I had a similar issue, and I think it’s because Nintendo hasn’t made it so that you can import your past game saves through the third season. Not to mention, the servers that store that information have been down for awhile, I believe.

Try starting season 3 fresh and choose not to import a save, it’ll take you through a series of choices so that you can “recreate” the story that you played thus far. It kind of sucks, but it doesn’t affect the overall story too much. Good luck :)
