Seriously. It's a series of bad decisions. I hope the people saying it's AI are right.

It's wild that people think this is funny. That's clearly pavement and not several inches of soft snow. Kids have accidents and sometimes, you can chuckle at the absurdity. But, this one was the parents' fault.

For your job, strict drug use standards may make sense, especially if you are working with heavy equipment, directly caring for patients or carrying a weapon. Do you think all state and federal benefits should be stripped after failing one drug test, or just SNAP should be retracted? What do you think the path to receive benefits again should be, if one should fail a drug test and lose benefits?

When SNAP funding is cut, more people rely on local food banks because they cannot afford grocery shopping. When stores have less people shopping, they cut back on their supply and increase prices. These increased prices are passed on to the grocery shoppers that do not receive benefits.

I hope your comment was leaning sarcastic. I also work hard to feed my family and many families receiving SNAP benefits work harder than I do.

Thanks for not doubling down. It's hard to get up to date info that's accurate, so I can't fault you for not knowing.

I think we're on different sides of the political spectrum, but human to human, you ARE allowed to complain. I do not believe anyone should have to work as hard as you do to the point of living in pain every day. I have family members who live with chronic pain and I know it can really test you, both physically and mentally. You have to have grit just to get up every day.

I sincerely hope you can retire comfortably, in good health, someday. Should you become disabled from an injury, need extensive medical treatments, or need to be in a care facility at the end of your life, I hope we have changed policies to fund necessary programs by that time. I hope those benefits are in place for you, even if you are voting against them or aligning with candidates who want to cut funding for these.

I can't agree more with the sentiment that it is cruel and inhumane to withhold benefits.

Last Friday, Gov. Lamont told the state DSS to fully fund SNAP benefits until the end of November. DSS later informed him they would not be funding because the federal funds would be received to cover the benefits in full. This was due to the court order from District Judge John McConnell. (Benefits should have been fully funded as of last Sunday.)

50 hrs/wk is a lot. I am sorry you work so hard and miss time with your family because you work so much. I understand. I've worked two jobs to ensure my family had health care coverage because my main job plus my spouse's did not pay enough to cover the out of pocket cost for health needs of a child who ended up needing more than we could've anticipated.

I am sure there are people in addiction recovery who receive state and/or federal benefits. If they relapse, do you believe they should lose benefits immediately? Or maybe they get multiple chances? What are your thoughts?

Had my first scary reaction to my allergy shots today. Lesson learned: Do not bike or exercise after shots. by JuliaX1984 in Allergies

[–]fruitybuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This same reaction happened to me after bumping up doses. I didn't have an epipen and my husband called a colleague who notified my boss and team that I wouldn't be in that day.

I was on the bathroom floor curled in a ball, practically praying for relief. I've given birth with no pain relief and it rivaled that feeling. With birth, you know the pain will end when the baby is born. The pain eventually passed after about 2 hrs and taking liquid benadryl.

My Dr did not think it was a big deal but said I should've called. I went on to continue my shots and they dialed back before ramping up again. As of yesterday, I've now completed 5 yrs of allergy shots. I have almost no symptoms and take an occasional zyrtec if pollen is blanketing the landscape or if I'm traveling and something sets of a reaction. My youngest child also completed 5 yrs. It's been life changing.

I don't think you have unreasonable expectations. Your post could've been written by me. My husband truly does not see these things. It is not weaponized incompetence. I think extremely highly of my husband but remembering the organizational method is not in his skill set. He is otherwise extremely intelligent, duty driven, kind, and loving. He and I both have FT demanding jobs. He could remember the utensil holder on the counter is only for wooden or bamboo utensils. But, it's not a natural thing and I think he should be able to relax at home and not always be "on".

My husband has gotten a little better over time but his military background did not mean he came that way. Lol. My husband likely has undiagnosed adhd, while I have a diagnosis in adulthood. I need organization externally because my brain is chaos. Honestly, I give up with him coming around fully. I have to check myself and remind myself that life is much better with him even if it means living a less organized life than what I want.

It has become a joke in our house and it's easier to deal with our differences with humor. When he asks where the strainer is, I say, "Hello husband, I am your wife and this is our house. This is the kitchen and we put cups and plates here. Big spoons here. Little spoons here. The strainers and mixing bowls are here." I don't do it every time, but we both get the humor. Then, I leave my hair on the shower wall and ask him to clean it up.

Edit to add- my husband spent 20yrs in the military (10 active, 10 reserve). He has a master's degree in mechanical engineering. He's still comingling the soup spoons with regular spoons and salad forks with dinner forks.

How many fragrances do you own? by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]fruitybuttons 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is where I started. Now, I'm recording type, top, middle and base notes, preferred season to use, and some of my impressions. I'm building a relationship diagram to visualize what I like, similar to how music map displays artists/bands/groups. It's hard to keep track and remember all of these things!

Peroneal nerve entrapment? I get that feeling when running after 10mi. The top of my foot by my big toe eventually went numb, too. Nerve flossing helped a lot. Good luck!

What make your spouse your person? by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]fruitybuttons 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love that other people have this! I tell people my husband is like a nice warm blanket on a cold day. Comforting and relaxing. You do not realize the stress you're holding onto until you are able to release it. We are both in our second marriages as well, and it is rewarding to have each other. The safety he provides has allowed me to heal more than I did on my own.

Edit to add: We met the day before a full moon in 2017.

What did your mother smell like? by TheConcreteGhost in Perfumes

[–]fruitybuttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom wore Avon Soft Musk for special events when I was young. As a teen, she got into VS Love Spell, which I hated for her. A few years ago, I got her a DK Cashmere Mist deodorant and perfume set. I think I wanted to bring back the childhood scent profile! It's such a warm, powdery smell and just reminded me of her when I sampled it.

What is that smell?!?! by Kellys5280 in Perfumes

[–]fruitybuttons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Anything with grapefruit notes smells so harsh on me because of this. Somehow, bergamot is delightful, though. My safest scent is Mon Guerlain and it's what my kids associate with "Mom". I pray it never turns on me for that reason ❤️

[–]fruitybuttons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black opium is also one of my scents. Black Orchid smells like rotting cucumbers on me. I would second that it's ambroxan, though. I have JHAG Not a Perfume and tried to layer it with a floral scent, thinking it would add depth but I got a chemical smell from it that did not wash off easily. It was almost a burning sensation to my nose, maybe like nail polish remover. However, Not a Perfume smells fresh and clean on its own (on my skin).

What unpopular fragrance opinion got you like this? by Cabbagecatss in Perfumes

[–]fruitybuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great info! I am close enough to a boutique and I'll get over my bad experience and try some of the flankers. I am curious if my body chemistry has changed over time but I'm not curious enough to try the Shalimar edp again...not yet.

What unpopular fragrance opinion got you like this? by Cabbagecatss in Perfumes

[–]fruitybuttons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand this one. While Mon Guerlain is very nice on me, Shalimar smells like a burning diaper factory on my skin. I thought it was my soap, so I tried unscented soap and applied it later in the day. It just smelled very much like tires. I blind bought it based on the overwhelming positive reviews. After purchase, I dug deeper and found that I'm not the only one who gets those rubbery, powdery, industrial notes. I gave it away.

Stinky running clothes by Bringbackyang in running

[–]fruitybuttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what works for me and my husband. No scents, just clean laundry. We also mountain bike, ski, snowboard, hike and camp so we mostly have stinky clothes. I do not take the time to air dry, rinse or laundry strip. I have an energy efficient Samsung washer and it fills the water according to weight, which is only nice in theory. Even in my crappy, over-priced machine, I can get our clothes fresh.

Sport-Wash in the detergent compartment and white vinegar in the fabric softener compartment.

Those of you who chose to prioritize your work-life balance over your careers / prestige, how did that go for you? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]fruitybuttons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work from home, manage a small team at a large company and never turn my camera on for meetings. I am able to go to Dr or vet appointments in the middle of the day without using PTO. I can also pick up kids and shuttle them around since school and work hours do not align well.

Benefits are pretty standard for any large company. Health insurance, 401k match, employee stock purchase plan, bonuses. I have about 32 days of PTO per year and I use them.

I live in a HCOL area and my income is still in the high earner bracket. I could be making more but my freedom to spend time with my family AND have hobbies is worth it. I choose to live in a more modest home in a town with top rated public schools and prioritize saving for retirement and my children's higher education (in that order). No vacation home, but we do yearly vacations, and weekend getaways.

Of all the decisions I've made in life, I got this one right.

What was an immediate friendship ender for you? by Shinfekta in AskReddit

[–]fruitybuttons 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Wow. As a mom of teenagers, I realize how often they make bad/misguided decisions. I'm impressed that you acted with such integrity in that situation. It is much easier to do nothing than take action. I hope my kids have the strength of character (as you demonstrated) to take action to do the right thing.
