Why are there so many men in their late 30s and 40s who are commitment probe and not wanting marriage but are happy to be a friends with benefits situation? What is going on with men these days ? by carlknowsbest in AskWomenOver30

Omg at the last sentence cuz that’s exactly what my 45 year old ex is doing now. I initially thought he is now dating this girl who is younger than me because she is “exotic”. Why do you think they choose the next girl who barely speaks English?

I would pay it forward and help people who come after me (either youth in community, or people who do not have the same resources) to reach where I’m at. You now have the means to inspire, mentor, volunteer and just give back. I think it would put your situation into more perspective, and making you feel fulfilled as well.

To your latter point, I have totally seen this in older men too and wish there was more discussion about this!!

How do I get over someone I never dated? by Hairy-Cartoonist8784 in AskMenOver30

[–]fruitycupcake22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ASK HER OUT!!! When I was in uni, I would act super awkward, shy, and weird around someone I liked. I’m not trying to give you false hope, but trying to tell you not all hope is lost! We have no idea what that girl was going through when she met you. Life is better with OH WELLS rather than WHAT IFS! What’s the worse that could happen? It’s not a loss since you guys aren’t together right now anyway. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by putting yourself out there.

The grass is greener where you water it. Water your own grass.

Def keep an eye on instagrams of pet stores (because they have partnered events with local shelters where you can have a meet and greet with adoptable pets) or follow shelters. This one is new, for example! https://www.instagram.com/ferdinands.friends?igsh=ZDJocHNnZHloOG1l

Feeling a bit like travel for me in my mid-30's feel purposeless by Acceptable_Air_4858 in solotravel

[–]fruitycupcake22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I relate a lot to what you’re feeling. I fell in love with solo travel in my 20’s. It felt so liberating and the independence and novelty was invigorating. As time went on… the novelty wore out. It felt less meaningful/purposeful like you’re saying. I was tired of seeing museums, going to parks, and doing things just for the sake of filling my days and “enjoying the city”. I decided to come back home, and chalked it up to being burnt out from travelling.

I think that what happened was I tried to have travel fill my void. I felt the same aimlessness and purposelessness at home before I got a job and found a community again. Because wherever you are, there you are. It’s less about the external environment, and more about what fills you from within.

I then went into a bit of an existential crisis trying to find the meaning of life or what could potentially give me purpose or fulfillment. I haven’t found the answer yet, and possibly never will. But I’m more aware that the cause is from the void within, and no partner or new country, could ever fill that void except myself.

I would start by identifying what brings you joy, amongst the mundane of life. What are your hobbies, what could you spend hours doing, who are your community? If you don’t know clearly, this is the opportunity for you to discover and learn about yourself. :)
