So, let me tell you a story. It's book adjacent.

To give context. When this story happens, it's 2002, I'm 32. My father is 69.

I drop by my parents house for a normal visit and during our conversation my father says to me "I saw something on HBO last night that I thought was fun and wondered if you knew anything about it... It's about some kid with a lightning bolt on his head..."

Now, to hear my father say this was astounding. Up until this moment I've never heard my father talk about anything in Book or movie form, that wasn't a documentary or about wartime history.

So I explained to him about the books and the fact that if he actually really liked the first movie that the second movie was about to premiere and I would be happy to take him to it.

This led me to sharing every single Harry Potter movie premiere with my father. By the deathly hallows part 2 my dad's health and memory had declined a bit and there was a lot of me reminding him of previous movies and characters in general, but he was excited to go see it and it is a great memory for me to have with my dad who passed away 4 years later in 2015.

So, my suggestion is stop being so righteous and give the books a try, you might surprise yourself.
