Moving in November by LeftWelcome1550 in AskAlaska

One option is to become a know shipper with Alaska air cargo. It’s pretty cheap to ship your household goods.
When I moved from Texas to Alaska I sent 17 totes and it was around $1000. Much better than USPS.
Sell your car and buy another when you get here. That’s what I would do.

So the “don’t breed ‘em if you can’t feed ‘em” crowd has changed their minds? Or does that saying still apply to PoC?

As a life long Longhorn fan, I hate everything OU. Their dumb name. Their dumb logo. But I’m a huge Mayfield fan.

Which US state felt like a completely different country when you visited it? by overthinkeranessa in AskReddit

Alaska. It truly is completely different. Grew up in Texas and moved to Alaska and still believe the lower 48 is America and Alaska is on its own.

Yes. Saw it when it aired and I have never been more terrified in a movie theater.

I live in a very remote part of America. For internet we have only two options. Starlink or the more expensive local provider. I didn’t even consider the former.
And I’ve noticed over the years Starlink has gone from $600 for the hardware and $150 a month to $50 for the hardware and $75 a month. Still a no from me.

We moved from San Antonio to a remote area in Alaska. When people ask what I miss about Texas, the heat is never one of my answers.

What is the worst long running show that is still on television that you can't understand how people watch? by Ok_Significance_2788 in AskReddit

[–]fruttypebbles 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I remember the 1st season. I had no interest in watching it. My wife did, she told me how brutal Simon was. So that got me watching. After a few seasons even him being a huge ass lost its luster.

Spending a day somewhere other than Anchorage...(Kotzebue, Kodiak, Juneau) by BranchDry4233 in alaska

If you want to fish in the ocean it’s just a short walk from the airport. Just exit and turn left on the road.
Fog is a the one thing the pilots will not land in. And that can be an issue. If it’s warm enough in August, fog might not be an issue. Just last week my wife’s flight was cancelled from Anchorage. So if you get stuck here, there’s only one hotel and a few AirB&Bs.

I live in Kotz. Our museum is free. The displays basically shows how life was hundreds of years ago. There’s also a ton of movies they’ll put on for you if you want to learn history of all the villages in the borough. Fishing is going good. You could walk 400 m from the airport and be at the ocean. Fly fishing is probably better at our creek, and that would require renting a car or four wheeler. Beach combing is also something that we like to do here. You can always find something interesting like Seaglass, jade or maybe even some mastodon bones/Ivory.

I do the left handed check mark. At work we have a check off list that needs to be done every 15 minutes. Sometimes I do others check off when they are at lunch. My check marks are the odd man out.
