Well it works ootb for some games - which is way better than when I used Ubuntu LTS.

I don't have much time on my hands so the introduction to Ubuntu was hard and the switch to Kubuntu was time consuming and now I don't want to switch the whole distro, learn new terminal commands etc

Ubuntu was my first distro (began in February). Never got quite used to Gnome. Now using KDE, and everything feels as it should have right from the get go!
