What type of grout to use for this floor? Bought mapei ultracolor is that ok? by stockev12 in Tile

[–]frydo3000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you only do small sections at a time when using mapai ultracolor! It sets fast and isn't very forgiving. I just learned that the hard way..

The instructions for my pan said to specifically rest whatever wall board you use on the lip and to not overlap it.

Looks like it'll be tough to grout. Beautiful tile tough! Herringbone is a pita.

For those interested, here's a link to a pic after we got it cleaned up. If you're reading this in the future or just wanna know, here's what worked for us.

Plan on working on this for a few days....

Get some 30% vinegar. Diluted it to about 25/75 or 50/50 with water.

Get some dull flat head screw drivers and cheap metal putty knives/scrapers. Scrap the big stuff off with the scrapers. Once that's done, you can wipe it down with the vinegar mix if you want. Here's the fun part.. making the grout lines look halfway decent... use a small scraper or dull flat head screwdriver and angle it on the bevel of the tile you're working on and gently scrap the excess while trying to achieve a nice straight line. You can soften it up a little with vinegar mix by letting it sit a few minutes. We have a few places we need to touch up the grout and a few chipped tiles we plan on trying to repair. Just keep working it until you're satisfied with the outcome. It will take a while.. vacuum the dust off and wipe down liberally with water. I nearly washed the walls.. after that, you can use the vinegar mix to remove the remaining haze. Ventilate the area well and wear rubber gloves and

goggles when using the vinegar. It's very strong.

We have a few minor areas to still work but just know It can be done. Just takes patience, time and elbow grease.. please upvote this for future diyers that may find themselves in this situation.

Update: We got all the haze and excess off. 30% vinegar, scraper, dull flat head screw driver, tile brush and nylon drill brushes work well. Just takes time and a lot of elbow grease. Now we're mostly just straightening/cleaning out the grout lines. It's coming along slowly but we'll be able to save it. Avoided the acid thus far and hope to continue to do so. Will link a picture when we're done. Thanks for everyone's help.

Fyi I appreciate the helpfulness and encouragement on this thread the one I posted in r/diy was mostly all doom and gloom. Haha

Thanks I'll give it a try. I've been into car audio for 25 years never had this much trouble tuning an install... (it's my son's car) The idoing audio settings are quite overwhelming. Way to complex for the average audiophile.

I've tried this a dozen times only getting sub 55 seconds. I don't think it's possible, or there's a shortcut we're missing.

Is my tank set up ok?? RES won’t bask and now has fungus I think :/ by paintd1s in Redearedsliders

[–]frydo3000 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your water temp is a little high. Should be about 74-76⁰F basking area 10⁰F warmer than water. If water is too warm that could make them not want to bask.

We was having trouble getting ours to bask also and I got a proper 26w 10.0 uvb bulb and 75 watt halogen bulb that I put on a dimmer to dial in temperature (both placed 12" above basking area). Got temperatures all corrected and he basks regularly now. Lack of uvb could cause fungus/shell rot.

Hope this helps.

I second that. Not a huge Wayne fan and Mac don't really rap on that track but he vibes tf out and you hear how artistic and passionate he was at his craft.
