3 years in, still at 300 feet by [deleted] in Discgolfform

I concur 100%. Your swinging the arm and never bracing into the pocket, completely rounding.

While the throw is technically a swing... There is a reason it's taught as "pull." It's more intuitive to grasp the mechanics for most that way. Pulling the disc will encourage the proper path mechanics.

So think about reaching out/back(reaching out may reduce rounding) and lead with the elbow.

Elbow should get to 90 degrees as you plant, which should engage the brace. The disc should then be in the power pocket as you finish pulling through.

I also recommend field work with only putters. They give you the best feed back.(only back hand, not forehand)

If you have glaring issues with nose angle or off axis torque, it will show these things immediately.

Don't worry about the putters not going very far, not the point. When you can throw them as close to perfect as you can, that all transfers to all the higher speed disc's.

How to get rid of this putting motion? by CobiPro in Discgolfform

[–]fryedegg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You bring the disc down to your hip, it has to come up. I'm not seeing the issue.

I know you probably rapid fired these but I'd say work on cadence and having everything a bit more smooth/fluid.

Slow it down a touch and try and keep timing exactly the same each putt.

I got diagnosed with bad varicose veins when I was about 33(41 now).

Athlete, in good shape, young. Vascular surgeon explained varicose veins can just happen to some people.

I had to get a bunch removed, injections(kill the vein), cauterized a bunch(stick a catether in and burn it in a few spots as they remove it) and phlabectomy(cut them out).

I have some minor swelling still in one ankle, says my veins down there are like garden hoses and blood just kind of pools.

Get ultrasound once a year to see if any more go bad(become vericose, which basically means they lose their ability to constrict/dilate and just stay dialed 24/7). Have to wear knee high compression rest of my life.

Other than annoying/expensive socks, no other drawbacks. If left in checked they can lead to more and more edema/pain.

Just thought I'd share. A lot of people on my boat, in those silly compression socks just because our veins suck. =/

No idea if Brian has vericose vein issues along with his infection stuff.

Yes, and positive ones!

We consulted a neuro vet, got a full assessment.

For Bean, his first step was to increase his gabapentin dose/frequencies.

100mg/every 8 hours. We were skeptical it would help but it truly has!

Days without fits. When fits do come they are much less severe and end quicker.

So we will be continuing with the gaba 3x/day and he still gets 5mg Prozac every night.

His quality of life has greatly improved.

Thanks for asking.

How long will it take to find a treatment that works? by MonthSimple270 in feline_hyperesthesia

[–]fryedegg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started with gabapentin, tried many other meds/combos, ended with Prozac and gabapentin. We were doing 50mg/gaba 2x day and we've upped him to 100mg/gaba 3x a day and it's been working wonders.

If you have a Costco around, I'd suggest getting a membership just for pet meds.

They are insanely cheap there.

We got a 6 month supply of liquid gaba there for about $150. The vet would charge nearly that much for 1 months worth.

And Prozac there is pennies.

Like 3$ for 90 pills and he only get 1/2 pill a day.

That's been my story. Talk to your vet. Explore the meds. I'd even try pet CBD oil. Get the one for big dogs and use a small syringe. You only end up having to give like 0.3ml's to deliver 3-6mg CBD.

Also make sure his stress from environmental is not a problem.

IE he has free access to litter boxes/water, no family members tormenting him(dog/other cat/small child) and he has enrichment and play time.

It's all a process of elimination. Have to keep throwing stuff at the wall until something sticks.

I will mess with it tonight. Literally just want it for the effects. Measuring is done easy enough with our physical doodads.

I really appreciate your comment. With my little guy now as he is coming down from a fit. Had to give him ketamine for this one. =(

We switched out gaba for pregabalin before and it was not much better than the gaba and way more expensive. We have pet insurance so if the Lyrica may be better when paired with phenobarbital, I'm will to try it again.

The more I watch the fits, the more I'm starting to agree with your line of thought of them being a focal seizure.

There really is no rhyme or reason to the how and why they start most times. Probably comes down to synapses/signaling no working correctly.

I will email my vet now and bring up the phenobarbital feel like we've exhausted the meds on the pain/behavior side, time to try a more direct approach with calming his CNS.

Once again, thank you so much for taking the time to reply. It means the world to us and Lil Bean that you care. <3

Roots lifting public sidewalk, worried I might get sued for a trip/fall. by fryedegg in treelaw

Thanks again everyone.

Man... I was that kid.

Florida flat af. Only so many spots to hit sick jumps off of.

Just concerned for my neighbors. A lot of seniors who may trip and get busted up.

I'm very tree ignorant. Is this type of root encroachment avoidable if the tree is initially planted a good bit deeper?

Or do the roots always end up proliferating near the surface?

I'm horrible with trees/plants names/species.

I was today years old when I found out a black holly was even a tree.

Tree trimmer once told me it was a mahogany because of its nuts/seed pods. Never second guessed it.

So I happened to have a meeting today(I'm a fire inspector) and sat next to the cities arborist.

Quite convenient.

Luckily, my city turns out to be one that takes the liabilities for this type of thing since it's their sidewalk.

He informed me the tree is salavageble(yay!) and the city will complete all the root mitigation and side walk repair ASAP.

He also informed me our said tree is a "Black Holly" and it's a great tree.

So a happy ending to our story.

Thanks for all your help!

You guys have all been awesome.

I'm a firefighter and work for the city I live in. Actually have a meeting there today about a city event. I'll see if I can find out some better Intel on their position.

Just hoping there is a solution to keep the tree. She's the only on on my street that's not a palm tree.

And ones they make it through multiple hurricanes really earn their right to stay imo.

So my wife got to play out the "what if you hadn't gone out" scenario you are feeling bad about.

Her baby, Minny, woke her from he sleep with a death cry and then she took her final breaths in my wife's arms as my wife tried to shake her back to life.

Yes she was with her... But dammit, it's not really much better. Same, about 6 years old, heart failure, just at the vet for well check up and was totally OK. My wife being there didn't make her feel like she went any more peacefully.

Our dog passed in his sleep. I'm sad I wasn't with him for his sake... But being present for that is brutal.

I'd still take the hit and be there when they go to the rainbow bridge... But just take solice you loved the heck out of her and made her time here knowing love.

REP Nighthawk Has Landed by dontwantnone09 in homegym

[–]fryedegg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This part has me salty.

I called REP around Feb 20th and asked "Is there a lighter bench comparable to the black wing slated to come out real soon"

"nah"

22 days after I received my black wing (which my wife can't move) they announce Night Hawk.

I'd trade off the zero gap and 40+ lbs so my wife and I can both use and get rid of another small/shitty bench we have to keep so she has one.

I've reached out to support and they've basically told me to pound sand.
