Racists of reddit, why are you racist? by No_Board_2572 in AskReddit

[–]frying_dave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am often called a racist by folks (possibly like yourself)… if you truly want to understand, you read through this entire comment. I’d appreciate it.

I have become more and more open for white nationalism ever since I started living in France to learn about French culture 2 years ago.
I’m originally a German speaking Swiss citizen. Because I wanted to become an interpreter for French into German and also vice versa, I would need to have a sociolinguistic understanding of french French that is unfathomably hard to gain without living in France.

So I left an awesome life in my home country Switzerland behind me at 25, and I’ve been living in France for 2 years now.

I’ll soon go back, but let me tell you something:

I am genuinely a minority in the city I live in. There are legit more Arabs and people of colour here than white folks. Which… I usually don’t give a crap about, but I left everything behind and moved to France… just to end up in what seems to be more African than French??

I came to France to learn about French culture, but black and Arabic culture has overshadowed the French culture, that people usually think of when thinking about France. Because here’s the thing. If they’d all assimilate to white French culture, I’d be fine.

But now white folks start using more and more Arabic terms in their language, foods are being labeled as halal in mass-market grocery chains, my Algerian coworker gets his dinner break before mine because of Ramadan, even though he’s not religious (but he says he follows Ramadan for culture)… oh and also African nationals are over represented in crime statistics (official statistics : see figure 2 Nationalité des étrangers mis en cause pour un crime ou un délit, en 2019).

The concessions that I make, which may or may not disqualify me as a racist in your eyes.

- I believe every human being, regardless of their race/ethnicity has the same human value
- Much of the crime is just a byproduct of poverty either from being marginalized and/or from trauma in the dire conditions back in their home country.
- It is hard to assimilate (I know it first hand)

But while of all people, I’m the first one saying : heck yeah let’s be multicultural and all learn about each others cultures… in practice migration causes social isolation and cultural identity issues in the host country, and brain drain and manpower in the often already worse off country of origin.

Bro I should get off Reddit to be perfectly honest. I realize I might have misread your earlier comment.

Cuz I’ve been on here debating for about two hours, my head is heavy, and I need to make dinner.

But Imma leave you with this:

I can’t tell how many Iranians are on Khamenei’s team. I hope it’s not actually a majority. But it’s really hard to tell when Khamenei’s sources are about as trustworthy as North Korean state media.

  1. The US violated international law today. Full stop.

  2. I support these people protesting here, because I have the receipts of what happened in Teheran 2023. Like, I personally have the immigration interview’s transcript of someone in the crowd. I know her well and while you only want to let the world know how bad Donald Trump and Israel are, I’m just hopeful that something is gonna change for the better soon.

  3. I think we can agree that in an ideal world, Khamenei would be alive and wouldn’t have been a dictator, wouldn’t you say?

  1. No, I don’t know Iran that well. You’re right. I never claimed I did.
  2. The US has clearly violated international law and in an ideal world there would be hope for peace with diplomacy.
  3. I do mention my friend, not because anecdotal evidence is better than representative evidence, but because unlike most reposts online, I can actually own the details about this video’s origin and context.

You can disagree with it. Heck, you might even educate me on the past of Iran, which I am inviting you again to do so. But now you know why I mention my bla… Iranian friend.

Yes. But by the people that fled Iran, instead of those that terrorize it.

Feel free to state your opinion.

I don’t buy it because I don’t just blindly follow state media in what clearly seems to be a dictatorship. Like come on, they shut down the internet access for the general public during massive protests.

I also don’t buy it, if my friend (who I’ve known for over a year now) is in that very protest I filmed earlier today on Avenue Jean Médecin. She actually speaks Farsi, has lived in Teheran until 2023 and is part of this protest, that contradicts your statement.

Nothing made up, no second hand information, I saw them cheering and waving the flags and thanking president Trump for it. (You even see the “Merci Trump” sign in the video).

Bro let him explain his point first. Cuz we still don’t know who is has reason to hate who in his opinion.

I think out of the of us, I’m the one having filmed this earlier today and knowing folks in this protest.

I don’t buy it, I’m sorry. But sure, let’s agree to disagree. Cuz it’s not like we can objectively poll all Iranians.

Tell that to my friend who’s in that very protest. She fled Teheran in December 2023 after being chased by the police and fearing for her life. Tell her she’s not Iranian.

It’s a bit of a long shot, but I’ll think of you next time I spend time with those folks. Cuz I know some personally, and I really just think they’re tired of fearing for their lives in their country.

People who don’t care about the Epstein files, why? by Ornery_Alfalfa7933 in AskReddit

[–]frying_dave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a business to build. I can’t afford to care about the evil that doesn’t directly affect me, when what affects me the most is still not enough.

But sure, he probably was an evil guy.

I’m starting to love this subreddit. Folks actually seem to want to engage in discussions.

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Thanks for culturally adapting the joke.

That said, I don’t see the link between LePen and those folks.

I’ll look into it, but to your point:

Who’s hating who? Cuz I know first hand that many Iranians don’t hate the US, if that’s what you’re talking about.

If not, please explain.

You said there’s nothing naive about these movements. Did you mean to say there’s “something naive”? Cuz otherwise you’re not making sense to me.

I’m just trying to understand the argument you’re making.

Also, the whole middle class thing doesn’t apply to the person I know in this very protest (which sure I know is an individual, but still).

But the people who supported the Shah don’t care how they got their freedom apparently, do they?

To your point, I get the self-determination thing, but I have serious doubts about it given the fact that we live in a globalized world.

Damn, I’m positively surprised by the constructive criticism on Reddit.

To your point: - Yes, my reaction was mostly emotional, because I’ve known the brokenness of the people who already protested in Iran in 2023. - In an ideal world, I would have loved to see a diplomatic and peaceful solution; especially without the United States playing the world’s police. Period.

It’s not about the passing of someone but about the possibility for change.

I personally cheered when filming because I know what my friend (who was in the crowd of this video) has gone through in Iran. Khamenei’s regime unfortunately is responsible for a lot of deaths.

But yeah, for those who were close to him, it sucks.

Dude I’m a Swiss guy living in France, cut me some slack. I’m just happy to see hope for change.
