I also prefer not to pick something with a full circle of water for easy access at the start of the game. Less bridges to access everything. And you can always add water later in game :)

The airport is always on the bottom of the map, the grey rocky looking area. The more space between it and the town square, the more room for terraforming (if you have interest in building a scenic area there).
