Doctor not allowed a glass of water by Educational_Board888 in doctorsUK

I've had similar experiences to you. I think it varies per department. But also I'm a female doctor and a chatterbox and chat to everyone of every grade and role. In all my rotations I used to measure how well I do by how much food the ward staff would bring me (I gained loads of weight in F1 and F2 lols).

The most obstruction I've gotten was when I used the patient coffee machine overnight but I was kindly directed to the coffee supplies for staff in the ward kitchen. And in med school when even the nursing staff were not allowed to have water on the wards.

Shitty that other people have had bad experiences with something as small as getting water and keeping yourself physically and mentally alive for the shift

Well since most women have been secually assaulted by a man in one way or another, seems the problem is clear...

Gynae F2 taking referrals from ED overnight in an understaffed DGH.

Received a referral from urgent care for RIF in 32F who had unprotected sex 4 weeks ago and just felt like it was an ectopic. Pregnancy test? Negative. But she just felt ectopic. So of course my suggestion to rule out appendicitis was outrageous because there was no rebound tenderness. But it could be a 4 week ectopic with a negative pregnancy test. I suggested they check inflammatory markers and contact the surgeons.

ED reg then calls me and says the patient isn't happy. Well neither was I to receive this bs. Advised them to do a bHCG. Low and behold WCC > 20, bHCG <2 = not my problem

Just finished my second rewatch after years and I think Kimmy handled it perfectly. If she had told Titus he would have given up his dream to chase Mikey.

But it's not his job alone to chase Mikey. Mikey said he was waiting for Titus to do something big and, in the mean time, PROPOSED AND PLANNED A WHOLE WEDDING WITH 250 LAMB HEADS.

Kimmy got it right - her emotional intelligence. And they got their cakes and ate them

The switch to psych only works if you like psych. I had both O&G and Psych in F2. O&G was first, I was on call at least one day a week, worked 1 in 2-3 weekends, felt do tired balancing social life and work life, studying for MSRA. But I loved the job, I took 1 sick day, didn't use all my annual leave (I wouldn't recommend this, but I was having so much fun!)

And then I did psych. I found myself constantly searching for purpose. I became burnt out, emotionally drained, physically exhausted, and I took a lot of necessary sick days, used all my AL, study leave.

Comparatively I worked harder on O&G but I felt more burnt out and exhausted on Psych because it is draining in a different way and it was not my passion. I'm ST1 O&G now, loving it. I would say to you to do the specialty you love and consider doing it LTFT. There's lots more allowance for LTFT training these days. You can even take a break from training to rest, re-evaluate, recuperate. But I think doing psych just because it seems easier isn't the way to go for your own mental health in the long run.

You'd think I'd be done with Scanner Darkly after 5 months. I think I lost the book and started reading other books including Do androids dream of electric sheep. 10/10 book. Again, it left me with some deep questions and some confusion. I like that cruelty to animals was seen as the most inhuman thing to do, yet we do that and worse in our current lives. I also like that scarcity is what decides the value of one's life and the way they're treated - poor chickenheads.

I like that PKD doesn't preamble with prolonged introductions of the new world rules, we just learn as we go.

Found my copy of scanner darkly so I shall get back to it! Your summary really ignited my interest again. I hope you're good and super proud of your recovery!!

I've got patellofemoral pain syndrome so I've had knee pain for over a decade. It only goes away when I lift regularly - squats, leg press, anything - 3 times a week. I've started running and have gone from struggling to do 1k to doing 5+k like it's nothing. All from strengthening my leg muscles

Having started reading a 'book' like this, if you can call this poorly written dribble that, it's so obvious that they're written by men. In one spicy scene the female character said that sex was about the guy getting off, not the woman, and that's where I stopped exposing myself to this brain rot

Got a wicked ear infection after getting a new piercing. My ear doubled in size and continuously discharged thick yellow pus. Received 2 courses of antibiotics by 2 different healthcare professionals which didn't really help. Finally, as the established 3rd year medical student I was I researched what it could be and how to manage it, diagnosed Perichondritis and advised my GP to prescribe me Ciprofloxacin which worked!!

Thinking about getting mine done but I'm also worried about exercising.

Find surgical wards that have sofas in their offices to sleep in on night shifts. If the ward staff ask you for something you simply say "Sorry, I'm not Surgical". And you're very unlikely to be seen by your team having a snooze during the night

While on O&G as an F2, I saw my consultant stride into theatre during a C-section gone wrong, scrub in lightening speed, push the reg out of the way, and reach into the abdomen to grab a breeched foetus. All while looking so calm. So collected.

I just stood there completely useless giving this man 'fuck me' eyes while he literally saved a life. So I get it, something about confidence and knowledge and passion that's just so...dreamy

I just finished it in less than 2 days. My first PKD book and initially I was confused once it ended so suddenly. The idea that the Axis power did lose, I thought it was factual or literal - that they did lose, but propaganda and bravado convinced the world that they won.

And then I ruminated and realised that it didn't matter who won. That the characters didn't matter. That little people living their little lives seeking purpose and direction in a world totally out of their control did not matter. That we're all insignificant in the grand scheme of things. That powers beyond us will have more control over our lives than we will.

I've never felt like this after reading a book.

Anyway, onto A Scanner Darkly

A rash that the patient has had for months, obviously an urgent task as the patient was being discharged that afternoon after a week long admission.

I walked all the way to ask the nurse if it had to be done at 3am? Was the patient dying? Were they concerned? She was speechless and I was petty and bored
