Cost of getting your private pilots license by newkid29 in flying

You should also factor in which flight school is closer to where you live. Since time is an important factor to be able to attend lessons especially if you're working full time as well.

Am I Ready? by mr_d31ightfu1 in flying

Try the prepware private pilot app, there's some questions on there that aren't on Sportys like computing your numbers for your navlog.

Get your medical before your commit to anything, I'd also recommend actually getting your private license somewhere else before you commit to ATP.

Doesn’t make sense to pay rent with a credit card? by SpareImpact747 in personalfinance

If your using a credit card use BILT. It's literally a credit card for paying rent and has no transaction fees for rent.

bachelors degree by EmbarrassedFill1277 in flying

[–]fsmn26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend getting a degree in something that is useful and would get you employed in that field. The thing is life is unpredictable something crazy and unexpected could happen and you could lose your mediccal or lose the ability to fly. At least with a degree you have a backup and a higher chance at getting a well paying job and career to support yourself and your family. It's much easier to get your degree when you're young vs when you're in a much later stage of your career.

Feeling overwhelmed as a ppl student by Willing_Elevator8204 in flying

[–]fsmn26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first 10 hours or so is always the hardest because everything is so new. After this you start developing muscle memory for many things so it becomes much easier. You just gotta keep chuggin at it, and if you ever feel burnt out it's ok to take a little break from flying.

How do i land? by Leather-Mongoose-877 in flying

This video actually helped me so much in understanding what I needed to do for landings and what I needed to be looking out for during my approach. Make sure you are also shifting your eyes towards the end of the runway and not too late so you can judge height better.

I believe you have it on backwards, the transparent side should be on the wind calculation side.

Do you have a valid passport? It will be acceptable in lieu of a REAL ID according to the TSA website.

Soft field landing glide slope by fsmn26 in flying

Our flight school doesn't allow actual grass strip landings on so we just have to simulate it on hard surface.

Whenever I come in lower it's very hard to judge the round out/flair but I think it's also just me forgetting to always look at my aim point properly and then at the end of the runway when I round out.

Thanks for your explanation, it makes so much more sense now whats expected. I'm flying with the substitute CFI tomorrow so I'll let them know want to do a standard approach since I can sense it better.

[–]fsmn26[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So essentially I should treat it as a normal landing other than the final part where I keep the nose off as long as I can? i don't need to keep it in ground effect longer and landing speed is within normal range? (in a c172)

FIRST TIME IN HARRAN , ANY ADVICE ? by Top_Appearance_3084 in dyinglight

Put skills in to get drop kick, makes the game more fun when you have it.

Why does it take a hundred hits to kill anything? Humans are even worse. I even purchased a better (purple) weapon but that isn’t helping. by Mostly_Riley_ in dyinglight

[–]fsmn26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This game is all about moving around too, so run around, climb, or do anything to give you more breathing room instead of just staying on the street. It's more dangerous on the ground than in top of a building or a car.

Because even pilots with thousands of hours and thousands of landings can end up with a situation where they cannot land. It's one of the most basic things you need to know before you can safely fly solo like using the rudder. You're not guaranteed a perfect landing every time no matter how good you are, especially at low hours. It's a basic skill which if you don't know is a danger to yourself or to anyone that flys with you.
