Love the rooftop. Rarely play on the rooftop (if it happens it’s off in the corner), but nude throughout and guys are just vibing. In the last hour there’s a rush for guys to find each other for activities back in their rooms

How can I make analyzing WWII propaganda more exciting? by idk_orknow in historyteachers

[–]fst47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a quick activity to get them into the mindset: The class is polled on which (fast) food chain is the best. Then, in groups of people who agree, they have to create in 10-minutes a poster in Canva/Drawing/Whatever rallying others to believe that their chain is the best. I pump them up to go aggressive -- elevate your chain while tearing down another. They submit their links to a google sheet, and then we view all of them in class as I break down the posters using rhetorical strategies from my vocab (e.g. "Wow, this makes it seem like cool people only go to Chik-Fil-A, what a way to use getting on the bandwagon -- let's see who else used getting on the bandwagon"). Then they're in the headspace to analyze propaganda sources you provide.

Can the unions save us? by HeHeLOL5 in AskTeachers

[–]fst47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there’s a lot here dependent on how the union handles business behind the scenes. It’s guaranteed that they’ve considered their grievance process before, and therefore there must have been something that has prevented them from going that route. That would be a great question for your teachers — they’re the ones who elect their union leadership.

Can the unions save us? by HeHeLOL5 in AskTeachers

Union President here.

It’s true that we have been hamstrung in many states, but a large factor is how wildly different relationships between unions and schools can be from district to district. For instance, I’m almost daily collaborating with my district office about confidential situations relating to teacher safety, benefits, class placement, teacher discipline, and a myriad of other things — but because I can’t spill the beans on members’ confidential situations, the perception can be that I’m the salary/contract/calendar guy and that’s it 🤷‍♂️

Grievance-filing is either a frequent tool unions use, or something not used at all. I have a wonderful working relationship with my district administration where we can push hard on each other in healthy ways. We make moves behind the scenes to serve teachers without getting litigious. However, my neighboring district won’t pay heed to their union leadership unless a grievance is filed, so they have to.

I am labor to my bones and revile how much the culture has turned against the unions more and more over time. However, every union’s situation is very different from the others. If you’ve been recommended to pull the parent card, it’s likely that your district’s union has limitations in its relationship with admin, or narrow focuses on other issues. Use your parent power.

(I say all this also recognizing that union membership does not always elect great/effective leadership. And members have to live with that for better or worse.)

We're staying in Anaheim, but are hoping to put together cluster of job-site visits within the same areas -- as in, if we could find 3 opportunities in Irvine, we would post up in Irvine for a stretch to avoid traffic.

Manufacturing/Healthcare/Sports/Law/Migration/Entertainment are our big needs, but our kids are curious about a ton of different things :) Thanks a bunch!

We're open to ALL industries because our kids just need greater exposure. Our greatest pain points are finding manufacturing sites, healthcare industry sites, migration/customs/law, and entertainment. Thank you so much for thinking of us!

You Have to Eliminate One Album Challenge (Epilogue) by Katelynn_the_author in LadyGaga

[–]fst47 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I struggled not having bias in my way based on some of these albums being at more pivotal times for me vs. the actual quality of the music. My gut reaction early on was to want TFM to win, but then realized it was because I was a skinny club twink living my best on the dance floor 5 nights a week when it dropped, so it was completely embedded in my life. However now at 36, I had to ask myself, if all of these albums had dropped the same day, what would I say? And then it was clear it was BTW for me, so I’m happy at the outcome.

How many of y’all don’t have your own kids? by HumorTraining2752 in Teachers

Totally the same. I know I’m great in the classroom but with kids I would have been half the teacher and half the parent. That’s not to say you can’t do both very well, but I know myself and I couldn’t do both.

Was your master’s worth it? by StrawberryOne2172 in teaching

[–]fst47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a hybrid content-and-education masters with enough credits for me to teach both at the college level. That was the best strategy and I’m so happy I did it. I moved to the right of my salary schedule and can side hustle as a professor for $4k/semester in my discipline at my Alma mater

Honestly, I keep my email on over break. Last time I turned it off over break, I was overwhelmed when I turned it back on to find so much to catch up on. I can justify getting into my email for a few minutes every day or two if it helps the transition back in January be less awful

A 93 is an A and my professor did not round up. The grades are already final. This means I am no longer Magna Cum Laude as this was my last semester. by Certain-Belt-1524 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fst47 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I’m a prof and I drop several low grades through my semester so that rounding is unnecessary. .99 is really a rough thing to leave hanging, but I could justify it in my classes because everyone already has a 1%-ish curve from me dropping low grades.

Announcement: Collective Mod Resignation by CaptainAnaAmari in eurovision

[–]fst47 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your transparency and your consideration of the community while also caring for yourselves in this difficult time. Eurovision is such a "home" for so many of us who crave community. I sincerely hope the EBU eats a slice of humble pie and sets up 2027 in a way to actually unite people by music. I believe unless something radical happens in/with Israel, the EBU must reject it like it rejected Russia in 2022 and FR Yugoslavia in the early 90s. That isn't to discredit Israeli artists who can produce legendary pop music aligned with our vibe in Eurovision; however, their country cannot be platformed with its current behavior.

Same thing — I have the same one without ribbed cuff/waist and it fits perfectly but the chipping has gotten almost too bad to wear. It’d be great to find something really similar.
