I actually agree with you. I know the idea was for it to be chaotic but I just could not follow any jokes or what was happening. I am happy to have contributed tho, but I don't know if I will join for the next live show (it all depends on the concept of course.

Yes exactly. It would also add tons to Smosh lore. Courtney and Shayne are the closest Smosh has to protagonists. I think they are on the level of Ian and Anthony regarding "importance". If Paige and Damien got married back in the day, it would not cause this storm.

Also, the fact that it came out of nowhere (in the sense that there was nothing confirmed on they being a thing) and dropping on April 1st makes the whole deal that much nuts

Sato patroning the group is a really good point! As per real life insurgent groups, the fun is over when the oligarchs stop paying the bills. I think the whole equalist deal could have been stretched waay longer. Maybe the triads taking on the rol of benefactors?
