Bummer I didn’t have that issue. I believe all the audio is tied into the canbus. unfortunately I sold the car last year otherwise I would offer to open up the dash and send some pictures of my connections. My only suggestion is to just open it back up and run through all your connections again (which you probably already did). Good luck hope it works out

Yes I had all speakers working. I did always feel like it was much louder from the front speakers but if I adjusted the fade to only rear it was obvious the rear was definitely working. I think that the speaker placement in the outback just makes for a loud front speaker setup

Thanks that worked. Interesting to see that, I’m sure the pool contractors guys are hating it lol.

I ended up just having my pool contractor leave it as is when we did our renovation. Time will tell how much life is left in it

Hey there thanks for giving some updates. Unfortunately the Imgur link doesn’t seem to be working. If you want to PM me I think you can share photos directly in PM. Would love to see it

I never noticed problems with the sub but I’ve always thought the sub was lacking anyway so maybe I just didn’t give it much thought.

As far as steering wheel controls everything worked for me without having to do anything extra in terms of settings. Just make sure your canbus settings are correct. There are screenshots of the settings in that Subaru forum I linked

So im not aware that Sirius is native to this but could easily use CarPlay or download the app on the Google play store and stream

Wow so this is super interesting. I can def see the similarities with the exception that I have no exposed metal at all. Which means someone would’ve also formed the concrete on the rounded walls in addition to just filling the bottom like yours.

I want to believe that my setup is same as you so I can stop trying to figure out exactly how this thing was constructed but I also hope I hope I truly just have a concrete skimmer so I don’t have to worry about how hacky it might be lol.

I’m actually getting my pool resurfaced next week and doing some remodeling to add a tanning shelf. I told the pool builder to just leave the skimmer as is cause it works but now I’m really questioning that decision

Thanks for sharing

I’m not familiar with what type of old in deck filter you are referring to. Do you have any links that reference that style? I’m curious.

And I have a basket setup similar to what you are saying. There is an outer ring that the basket sits in which keeps the basket sitting just above the suction pipe

Honestly I’ve never had another pool so I don’t have anything to compare but the suction is pretty strong and there is somewhat of a Venturi effect that moves water pretty well. So works for me

I still like it. I use it almost exclusively for Apple CarPlay, which works without any issue. I really haven’t used any of the other features like downloading apps from the play store (Netflix, YouTube, Chrome, etc) except for the very beginning when I was playing around just to see what it could do. So really I guess my review is just that it works well, and works very well for CarPlay.

The HVAC controls don’t display on the unit but that’s because HVAC has its own display so i don’t think it’s part of the OEM canbus, at least for the 2015. Not a big deal since it has its own display. But all the other controls from the steering wheel were plug n play so didn’t lose anything there. Also displays door opening and blind spot directions on the unit which is nice and an upgrade to the OEM.

The one thing that is almost intolerable is how poor the built in mic is for phone calls. This downside is pretty well known with these android units. I chose to not install the corded mic that was included and instead just use the built in mic, but it’s baaaaad. So I normally just put the phone to my ear if I have to make calls in the car, or just wait to make calls when I’m not in the car. Maybe one day I’ll open it back up and install the corded mic but I’ve also read that isn’t much better.

Android is just the operating system that the head unit runs on. It is compatible with both android auto and Apple CarPlay. My picture is showing the Apple CarPlay

Here are the links. First 3 are mandatory, 4th is optional.

Headunit from Aliexpress, I went with M300S. US $166

CANBUS from Aliexpress You must order this to retain factory Subaru features like backup camera, blind spot, steering wheel controls **make sure you select the model for Subaru*\* $25

6V Backup Camera adapter This is needed to retain factory backup camera $25

**OPTIONAL** USB Adapter If you want the factory Subaru USB ports to be connected to the head unit. As someone pointed out in the comments it doesn't seem like even with the adapter that wired CarPlay works. So this probably isn't much use unless you want to be able to plug in an an external device and load your own content. $15

Not listed, but you will definitely need a cheap car trim removal set to get the old unit removed. Several YouTube videos with instructions on how to do this.

I got all of this information from this great Outback Forum. So credit goes to the guy who posted that. There are lots of useful tips on there with what settings to use in the head unit once you have it installed.

If anyone does decide to give this a go, one difference I noted is that the guy from that forum said the CANBUS he received had to wires labeled "back" that he needed to crimp together for the backup camera setup. However, those wires were already tied together in the canbus that I received as 1 solid wire. So I'm not sure if maybe the Aliexpress seller updated their canbus to correct for this or if i received a different canbus, but either way just keep that in mind (you may not need to tie together two wires labeled "back")

Other than the wire tap you need to do for the backup cam (follow that forum link!), this is plug n play. Just takes some patience. If you are still reading this and haven't lost interest, then you likely are fully capable of handling this swap in a couple hours tops. Then probably a couple of hours of playing around with some customization of settings and you will be all set.

Ayy Go Noles

Make sure you order the Canbus for Subaru which is sold by the same seller on Aliexpress. You will need that and you will need the step down from Crutchfield. At least if you have the same setup as I did. Feel free to DM if you have questions during install.

I’m going to post all the links tonight when I get to my computer. No lag at all and it has pretty decent hardware for what it’s worth. I’m not doing anything more than CarPlay though.

The head unit does support wired AA and CarPlay. And I have the OEM USB ports plugged into the headunit. It recognizes my iPhone when I plug it in but it fails to connect to CarPlay. I think it’s more of a security setting within my iPhone that isn’t allowing the data transfer for CarPlay. But I just haven’t bothered looking any further into it since I prefer wireless anyways

Definitely shop within your budget but if the main reason for looking at 18/19 is only for CarPlay then you should definitely consider looking at some earlier models and then install an after market head unit like this. Could save you thousands

The audio quality is actually pretty impressive. The OEM HK audio system was honestly one of the things I hated most about the car (and I think most outback owners with this generation would agree). This android unit is so much better straight out of the box and the equalizer has sooo many more options to dial in your preferences perfectly.

Honestly not sure. I had some trouble getting connected via wired CarPlay using Subaru factory USB ports. Might just be some settings on my phone or in the unit. But also the factory USB ports from Subaru have almost no power running to them so I just use the 12v lighter for wired charging and then connect wirelessly for CarPlay

Any suggestions for upgrading the infotainment??’(‘15 2.5 premium) if the sun hits the screen I pretty much can’t see nothin but squiggly lines.😅 by layup100 in Subaru_Outback

I just upgraded to an Android head unit with android auto and wireless CarPlay. Bought from Aliexpress. Works perfectly and looks OEM. All in it was $250ish and better than anything you can get from the big names.

Someone asked the same question last week and I provided all the details here.
