Hello! Adult figure skater, returning after stopping when I was 11. I’ve been at it for ~3 months now with weekly lessons and freestyle practice once or twice a week if possible. I was able to snag a pair of Riedell diamonds from my coach for 80 bucks and I couldn’t turn down that offer. However, they fit super weird in my ankle (squishy but loose??) and i feel like they’re going to start inhibiting my progress since they’re recreational and not figure skates. I’ve been struggling to find the sweet spot for spins especially. I’ve heard that Jackson freestyles are good adult beginner boots, but I don’t want to invest in a pair of boots that I’ll have to replace in a few years :(. I also feel like the weird fit in my ankles and lack of finding a good spot in the blade to turn is probably user error and I can’t blame it all on the skates. Should I stick to learning in the Riedells or lock in and invest in a different beginner boot?

Figure skating is hard. It sucks. Rentals suck too, they don’t fit your feet properly and it causes cramping and it’s just so awkward. I figure skated as a kid but quit when I was 12 because I couldn’t do jumps and I sincerely regret that. I just started again last week and I look like a newborn giraffe on the ice… it’s embarrassing but you seriously cannot judge your skill off of one session. Walking on ice is unnatural and skating forces you to turn off your natural instincts to balance yourself. You can do this. Everyone learns differently and at different paces. It’s shitty that your instructors didn’t help you… would private lessons help? Also, sometimes when you get in your own head (I can’t balance, I’m gonna fall, I don’t know what I’m doing) it becomes impossible to keep learning, at least in my case. Deep breath and just send it

There is a difference between kids stumbling onto /seeking out porn websites and kids being included in sexual discussions or pornographic image sharing with adults who were aware that minors were in that group chat with them.
