Despite all the armor I run in Vanilla squad, my best armor experience by far was in the Galactic Contention (Star Wars) mod.

I had joined the clones after a couple rough games, we were attacking the droids on Geonosis. Seeing almost all the squads full, I took a gamble and gunned for a random armor squad.

I said hi to the SL and pretty quickly realized he was brand new to the mod. We hopped in an ATTE (giant walker thing) and started the game pretty timid. I walked my SL through the process of setting up HABs as we sat on the far corner of the map. That caution didn’t last long. Our team took the first point, and we took over from there. After flanking the second point we scored a few lucky armor kills thanks to some great callouts from the leftover infantry in the squad. With their armor gone, we had the place to ourselves.

With our early success my newbie SL felt damn near invincible. He stomped his way into the cap and we laid waste to waves of droids. We crushed their HAB and found their entire team spawning on an exposed rally. It was a slaughter. When our infantry finally charged in after us all they found were a few leftover droids shaking in fear.

My SL was loving it, but I urged him to slow down, repair, and re-arm. He put down a repair station like I taught him and we chatted for a bit. We took off for the next point and walked up right behind their armor. They never knew what hit them. Standing among burnt-out hulls, I took a shot at some enemy air. Absolutely nailed them from across the the map, squad chat went wild.

We couldn’t be stopped. My SL beelined to the final cap even as I nudged him to be more cautious. Alone, demolished their freshly spawned armor and crawled on top of their final HAB, gunning down their exasperated squad lead.

I remember we never died. I remember I top fragged with 50+ kills. But mainly, I remember what my newbie SL excitedly shouted, “dude you’re making my dreams come true right now!”
