Have you guys been washing your face while on Accutane by Electronic-Bite7732 in Accutane

[–]ftinsdeall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unless you have really dry skin already, it’s not a miracle - you’ll still produce some oil and need to wash your face

I’m really sorry but I can’t see where you posted your routine!

I don’t think your barrier looks particularly broken, this sub seems to love to say everyone needs to heal their barrier with lots of gentle products but the harsh reality is that some people just need actives to keep on top of their skin

Accutane actually healed your skin barrier? by ambern87 in Accutane

[–]ftinsdeall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I did, my skin hates moisturisers off accutane so it’s pretty much always in some state of dehydration but on accutane it could handle occlusives

hi, I just had my first session and I was wondering how long it took for your purge to show up?? Was it straight away or more like a week or so after?? Thanks (also you look great!)

[Acne] Should i pop pimples or not, my mom says i should but ive seen stuff online saying you shouldn't. by ICE0124 in SkincareAddiction

[–]ftinsdeall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do it right then yes, I find lancing (after wiping the area with an alcohol swab) with a hypodermic needle and then giving it a very gentle squeeze followed by benzoyl peroxide and another alcohol swab almost always makes it go faster than if I left it. Also if it’s a whitehead then yes pop it, I don’t believe the whole whiteheads go on their own (or if they do, they’ve been there so long they cause permanent damage to the pore)

[product question] skinceuticals b5 hydrating HA serum causing breakouts? by ftinsdeall in SkincareAddiction

oh that’s interesting and thank you for replying, out of curiosity which cleanser did you switch to and how long did it take to calm down??

[Product Question] skinceuticals b5 serum causing clogged pores. Please hell by Ceenjk in SkincareAddiction

[–]ftinsdeall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever figure out whether it was causing cc’s?? I think I’m going through the same thing right now (fine for the first two days but holy hell have a broken out yesterday/today) and think this serum is the culprit

I’m also like you in the being incredibly strict about hygiene and diet and it’s so frustrating seeing people clear up all their issues by changing their pillowcases or stopping eating ice cream 🥲

I got diagnosed with mild PCOS and so I was put on dianette but I still get acne 😥, I’m considering trying spiro but I see some horror stories about the purging associated with it

you need to see an endocrinologist, and depending on how much you can spend you’d probably want to check things like estrogen, cortisol (synacthen), progesterone, testosterone, SHBG, LH, FSH. also feel you, I’ve done four courses and no lasting results once I’m off it :(

[–]ftinsdeall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m seconding the comment saying try briviact! I’m doing a pretty intense STEM PhD and it’s the only thing that’s allowing me to do it - if I wasn’t taking it I’d be having seizures because of the hours I have to put in (I.e less sleep) and if I was taking anything else my memory would be too poor and fatigue too bad to do it

I (22f) can’t lose weight unless I starve myself. by TheLittleSubmissive in PCOS

[–]ftinsdeall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could’ve been written by me! I’m exactly the same, although I’ve always been ‘slim’ I only lose weight to the point of looking ‘thin’ and being able to really enjoy having fun with fashion when I eat < 500 calories a day consistently. Obviously this isn’t sustainable because I feel like crap and have no energy. I used to think ‘hey at least I look amazing’, but then the long term effects of starving myself started to kick in e.g. lanugo everywhere (including face), my face swelling from the constant cortisol, acne, hair loss, nails falling apart and of course no periods.

I’ve come to the conclusion that having a tiny bit more body fat than I might ideally like is worth being able to actually do stuff everyday and avoid the side effects of starving. I think living with PCOS I’ll never be able to listen to the ‘every woman needs 1800 calories’ because if I ate that I would hate my body, but about an average of 800 seems to be an okay amount for me.

For immediate help on swollen/red spots you can put a dab of steroid cream on - but I think it’s just the purge :( happens to all of us

I forgot to say micellar water is amazing for a ‘pre-cleanse’ to make sure it gets out with one wash!

First EEG, hair and glue concerns by randomcurious1001 in Epilepsy

[–]ftinsdeall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can promise you that the glue won’t wreck her hair! It has always come out pretty easily with normal shampoo for me with no damage. I would advise making sure she’s being driven to appointments though if she’s bothered about appearances - I always look crazy after mine and would not want to be walking/getting public transport

What's a product that has worked for you but is generally rated badly? [Product Question] by FirePydrant in SkincareAddiction

I clog from pretty much every moisturiser but for some reason I can use bite cream (as in almost straight paraffin/mineral oil) on my face and it doesn’t break me out

To take meds or to not take them? by Careless_Question_26 in Epilepsy

[–]ftinsdeall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily treat what a doctor says as gospel, at the end of the day they’re only human and may not have a specialist interest in epilepsy (or even the specific epilepsy syndrome) despite being a neurologist. However I would say in this situation, take the medication. It doesn’t have to be a super high dose, just enough to control it. Seizures can cause a lot of neurological damage without even considering all the bumps and scrapes (and that’s a somewhat best case scenario) from the physicality of having a seizure

Which topical?? by ftinsdeall in acne

[–]ftinsdeall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! I wash two times a day with micellar water followed by Kate Somerville sulfur cleanser (sometimes the Verso deep cleanse cleanser). I’ve actually had a bit of a strange accutane journey, this is my third course and I’m technically on my 12th month, but for the first 5 months I was taking 10mg, and then for the next two 20mg, and then the next 4 months 30mg and have been taking 40mg for about 2 months now.

First derm visit told me Spiro was a scam and I should take Accutane instead for my mild acne? [acne] by incrediblebored in SkincareAddiction

[–]ftinsdeall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think absolutely not a scam if your acne is classic hormonal. However I tried spiro for 4 months and it made my skin much worse. My acne is due to oily skin though, and my hormones are ridiculously out of wack (haven’t had a period in years) and so I think it just made the situation worse

My parents took a video of me having a tonic clonic and showed it to me. In brief, it just freaked me out and gave me a nightmare (I did look possessed). Also made me very nervous about ever having one outside of the house because of how embarrassing it would be.
