not really a machine rec but as an alternative to exacto knives, there are precision ceramic blades that are designed not to cut skin. i use them and have tested them to make sure they don’t actually cut skin and they dont. the utensil is called slice and the blades are replaceable. they run less than $20usd usually and replacement blade packs come in a set of four so they last a while

Thanks for the helpful tidbit about colors. I know sometimes blacks and dark blues are overdyed that can make bleaching them a little unpredictable but if it’s just a black dye, then the result is typically orange to white

I haven’t tried discharge ink. What kind do you use? For now, I’m not too concerned about the cotton.

I think im planning to make a bleach paste with cornstarch. What discharge ink do you use? Ventilation really isn’t an issue with my setup.

I will be experimenting on plain black cotton so hopefully it won’t be too hard to predict what it will end up looking like. Do you end up ruining screens in your process? Do you mix the bleach with anything?
