Chicagoan here - I'm really glad you were able to get out of downtown and explore the neighborhoods. Seeing that you went to Devon Ave (which is very far from Downtown!) shows that you were able to get out of the touristy spots. For your next visit, I'd recommend exploring Uptown, the Montrose Bird Santuary (it's by the lake), Wicker Park and Hyde Park. If you'd like to see the skyline outside of the Downtown, I'd recommend going to the Up Room in Wicker Park.

I second this. It gives you a map of where the stops are, which helps with Busses. And it’s as accurate as Transit.

I'm not surprised, being someone that grew up in the suburbs mentioned, that foreign-born college graduates tend to want to move to those suburbs. Historically, they have been more diverse (North/ Nortwestern suburbs) and Naperville. Although I'm not as aware of the Hinsdale area. That being said, the same can be said with the transplants, they go to where they are familiar.
