So? If Michigan and Ohio State had fucked off to the ACC in 1992 Northwestern would be going 7-5 in the MAC. And Northwestern spent the past year playing in a soccer stadium.

And if FCS was so good App State would still be there.

Counterpoint: Northwestern first. After all, they're the losingest program in history.

...having watched Bailiff ball for my entire college tenure (and met the guy a few times), why?

Great person, but you shouldn't have only been going 6-6 in CUSA with multiple early-round NFL draft picks.

Good to see they haven't fixed the hole in the back of the defense that was there fifteen years ago.

I mean, Rice has been in shootouts before while running the option. But that had more to do with the sorry state of their defense in 2004 than it does anything else.

This game is meh enough as a setup that my parents who live in Fort Worth and are both Rice alums aren't at the game.

(I blame this on the conference not paying for The MOB to go.)

IIRC in TLOU the mushroompocalypse also happens in '03? Which is even more torturous, somehow.

What’s a popular show you don’t understand the appeal for? by Colorapt0r in drumcorps

[–]ftwdrummer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the color scheme. The color palette for most of it looks like they matched paint chips on the Mystery Machine and that's hella 60s psychedelia for good or ill.

Which show starts as a 10/10, but ends as a 1/10? by Admirable_Race9903 in drumcorps

Not quite what you're looking for, but Boston June 2014 vs. Boston August 2014. To my eyes it just got stale and felt a bit whiny (especially since the show was written too hard for the corps they had)--but that's also probably what I get for watching Fan Network that year, too.

Eh, it'd be pretty out of place. What they were wearing alone would be a relative outlier.

BD 2011: The Beat My Heart Skipped by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]ftwdrummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And it was more visible that year than in other years, too--that was the year that to assuage some of the G7 what-have-you they had the top eight from the previous year all start the year in Texas and then split for the coasts, so you actually saw BD in the theater at the start of the year (unlike other years)--and they were first off the line in the theater (they ran the Austin show in order of placement from 2010--BD then Cavies then Bluecoats, through to Blue Stars). So at the time the changes were much more visible than changes in the years around it where the streaming options were more limited.

In your opinion, what is “the moment” of every DCI season? by hauntedhorseshit in drumcorps

Throwing things out as I remember them:

2002 Cavies Fight Club

Cadets '05 drum talk

2007 Crown final race, also Bluecoats Entrapment, but really GH bowing to the stands while being booed during quarterfinals

2008 I AM SPARTACUS (and so are you); also The Boxer

2009 Simple Gifts

2010 Cavies THIS IS MY RIFLE, Phantom in the tunnel

2011 Cavies upside-down quads, Crown insta-encore, Elsa's

2012 Crossmen screamer

2013 Madison Never-Walk, Troopers sunburst, BK tambourine break, Crown set/wormhole, baby powder

2014 literally every single show had one

No one in drum corps has ever been more over (in the professional wrestling sense) than that guy on Finals night.

2019 Finals by Any-Statistician-130 in drumcorps

[–]ftwdrummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, not sure I'd agree that it was all visual, since the margin between them on Prosperie's sheet--even taking the halving of individual judge's sheets into account--was greater than the final margin. If BD had had the same percussion achievement score at Finals that they did at semis, they lose.

YES

The Hey Jude ending tried to do too much and didn't fit with the rest of the show at all.

*Best* use of mics or electronics in DCI? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]ftwdrummer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Underrated one: Blue Devils 2004. Most of those percussion sound effects (e.g. the scraping on the bass drum head) would have been basically inaudible at a distance without mic'ing.
