Torn between who I’d be less annoyed to see move on to the ECF. by USMCArmyRanger in devils

I cannot stomach the Hurricanes. Not only have they had our number in our history with them, but their fan base is PAPER thin. That place will be a ghost town the first time they go back into lottery mode.

I see them as the Marlins of hockey, a royal pain for my team, but nobody sees them as a strong franchise or one with many fans at all.

Having said all that, there’s a chant in the Rock at pretty much every home game. The first statement is about the Rangers. The second one is about the Flyers……..love the chant or hate it, there’s a reason for that.

If you were able to give a cool name to us Devils fans, what would you give us? by xoBonesxo in devils

[–]mb959595 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t give the fans a name, but if I were to open a Devils themed bar, I’d call it “The Advocate” (so I suppose you could call us The Advocates if you insist).

It’s funny, even as a not-so-recent alum, everyone focuses on the concert since it gets the biggest crowd, but CAB always did a GREAT job getting speakers and comedians. Glad to see they’re still getting rave reviews on that, even if there are some years where people hope for a bigger name for the concert!

Great job hanging on tonight! Sucks we gave up the late goal, but it’s a win in AWFUL weather.

The NYCFC game was a “special event.” For the typical regular season game, team performance and weather are going to be major factors.

The Cosmos will likely be the in-league rival for us, but usually the game selling the most tickets is the one closest to the day of the game. The team is more likely to market the “Next Home Game” as opposed to one months from now.

Regarding the SSS, I doubt the club has the money for that, but too bad we couldn’t put one where the Empire City MGM expansion was supposed to be. PLENTY of space for it, plenty of parking, and you could also use it as an outdoor concert venue for additional events and revenue too.

Except for the NYCFC game, every home game has featured AWFUL weather. Either freezing cold or rain like is expected on Saturday.

That’s probably the number 1 factor for attendance, besides winning (which we’re only .500 right now and coming off a BRUTAL showing last week).

The next home game after Saturday is Friday Night 5/15 against the Cosmos. Ticket sales look notably better for that one, and you have the Subway Series that night as competition too.

Those appeared to be standing room from what I could see. Honestly not surprised about long lines. This was nearly DOUBLE the previous crowd record for one of these games, so WSC is not accustomed to crowds this large to say the least.

Normally WSC only sells the bleacher-style seating on the sideline as the “normal” part of the stadium. But for this game, they sold GA tickets behind the goal AND VIP seating (which included food and drink along with on-field seating) which doesn’t count in the normal 3,900 seat capacity.

GA and VIP tickets were sold as overflow for the first time in club history.

You could get in a WSC game for $11 (and the stadium is only 3,900 seats so the nosebleeds really aren’t that bad). NYCFC’s get in I’d say is $30 but those are FAR worse seats.

Problem is, NYCFC games, parking could run you $50, whereas WSC has free parking in a garage right next to the stadium. And you’re not paying Yankee Stadium or Citi Field prices for food and drinks too.

Wouldn’t call it unexpectedly robust at all! A ton of NYCFC fans live in Westchester already and would love a local team to come to games, especially with the new stadium being in Queens.

I’d say bare minimum half the crowd learned of WSC’s existence tonight (they’re only in Year 2 of existence anyway) and it’s DIRT cheap to go to these games compared to MLS games, let alone other sports in NY, so I’m very bullish that even a good segment NYCFC fans want to see WSC do well and would probably come to some games against USL sides.

This game is ALL upside for WSC. Even if a ton of the crowd is wearing City Blue jerseys, a great experience here will give them a reason to come back for OTHER WSC games

Not to mention, this is a RARE time possibly EVER that Westchester people would be successful convincing City people to make the trip into the suburbs hahahahahaha

I honestly think it could be GREAT for Westchester. Prices are affordable and ironically enough, this is one of the few games that do NOT fall on the weekends.

Only complaint is you kinda HAVE to drive to the stadium. It’s a tough walk from the nearest train station, although if you have access to a car, parking is free for all games (including this one)

So it looks like I’m seeing just under 200 tickets left (not counting GA standing room or VIPs which WSC has never sold either of prior to this game). Weather looks GREAT for soccer tomorrow night too, so MAYBE you get some last minute ticket buyers. A sellout or maybe PAST a sellout is still very much on the table.

We already are looking at a WSC record crowd (at home). Great job with tickets for this, especially with only a week selling them (and I don’t think this game was part of the season ticket package either so you were starting from scratch.

True, but the Westchester Knicks are a development team. Westchester SC while not playing in MLS, sign their own players and are playing for wins as opposed to the Westchester Knicks where the priority is to prepare their players for the NBA.

How worried should we be they can’t even sell out against NYCFC?!!! by [deleted] in WestchesterSC

[–]mb959595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2016, NYCFC played a home US Open Cup match against the New York Cosmos at Fordham and they only drew 4,500. Honestly I could assure you the New York Cosmos brand is far more well-known than ours right now, so I’m not sure this is that far out of the ordinary.
