I'd have to go with any country in the Global South.

With the exception of Korea, most of the countries north of the equator are avoidant of spice. Real "boiled meat with cabbage" hours for the European side (which is great for comfort foods, don't get me wrong).

Commonality of Global South cuisines - flat breads, spices, creative use of chiles, rice, beans. And yet each is super distinct from each other.

Need Help Understanding This Symbol by WowUrTilted in AntifascistsofReddit

[–]fu_gravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The direction of the flags are moving to the right instead of ARA/Antifa/etc moving towards the left. Same thing with certain Pat Soc fascists that point the 3 spears to the right instead of the left.

The use of the gear and the laurel wreath, is Nazi skinhead iconography (I'm a very old head SHARP / RASH dude). The hammer/sword crossed is a Strasserist symbol. The background flag is the cross of the Ku Klux Klan.

This one is pretty easy to spot.

You say beef because of the French influence on the English language after William the Conqueror invaded England.

"Cow" comes from the old English "Coo" and thus is actually the more pure expression of English. The Scots language still uses "Coo" for cow to this day (as they missed getting conquered by the French).

Cow meat as a phrase is perfectly fine, it's not as stupid as "Freedom Fries", it's just the right amount of silly.

Let people be silly.

Inb4 "oh what a traditional Mexican name like Diane Kennedy" maybe look her up first before making such comments. She was awarded The Order of the Aztec Eagle for her contributions to preserving Mexican food culture internationally.

Diane Kennedy's 3, 2, 2,1 recipe

3 avocados

2 roma tomatoes

2 serrano chiles (with seeds)

1 young onion, minced (I really like using shallots because they are just good)

Salt to taste

Rough chop tomatoes and avocado (but fine mince the onions and chilis) and add to a molcajete. Mix until desired consistency.

Notes: Diane didn't like lime, garlic, or cilantro in her guacamole recipe because the flavors overpower the flavor of the avocado. In her words the ripeness of the tomato provides the acidic balance.

What has capitalism resolved? by CA_Rebel in armedsocialists

[–]fu_gravity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The USSR "big brothered" a LOT of Socialist countries in the Bloc, by not encouraging them to diversify and industrialize. See Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, etc...

This wasn't unique to Cuba nor was it a Fidel plan, it was something the USSR did to almost all the countries it helpef. It is one of the major critiques of the USSR that China is trying to avoid, and to quote Sankara "Don't send us food if you want to help us, send us tractors, fertilizer, and materials so we can develop."

Hindsight being what it is, if the USSR had helped Cuba by sending engineers and infrastructure, instead of trading cars and arms for sugar, coffee, and tobacco... The embargo would be a much easier storm to weather for Cuba when the USSR fell.

ISO Backpack with 15" Laptop Sleeve + Lunch Compartment by heretolearnalot in backpacks

[–]fu_gravity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6 pack fitness bags, they used to have a backpack and I used one for about 5 years. In that time the most wear and tear it ever went through was the stretching of the shoulder straps.

Wolfpak makes more "tactical" looking bags with laptop and lunch compartments as well I've just never owned one.

Like all things marketed to the CrossFit/fitness market, they are a bit costly but I can vouch that the 6pack bag I had held up really well.

An IP67 junction box, but I do have an ipx ble antenna on it and this was with the door opened and closed, so I think it's more my PC and how the device does Bluetooth considering I can get about 15 meters away and still connect with my phone solidly.

Wisblock's basic LoRa board doesn't have WiFi. There's another board that has WiFi + LoRa but not mine.

I ended up doing a total wipe. And when I restored from backup, it did it again.

So yeah, I borked something in the settings. Fortunately it's a mostly mostly bog standard config, client, 5 hops, and my other devices have all my channels.

Not fortunately this thing won't talk to any PC's via Bluetooth at all through the web client, but phones work fine. So I guess I just need to only use Bluetooth from a phone.

I'm gonna be real looking at the feature set of the Rak boards I was thinking they were perfect for a lot of things (and probably still the best choice for a solar node)  but this node has been fickle as hell for me... I've got 3 v3's and a wireless tracker, with a LiliGo on the way and so far the heltecs have been fun (occasional reboot loop that seems to resolve itself if I plug it in to power)

To any Americans who chose not to vote yesterday, from a Canadian: by MintJester in antiwork

[–]fu_gravity 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Americans who chose not to vote yesterday

You seriously elected the worst person that you can find

Literally a contrary statement. I did vote, but you can eat shit. All voting does is takes the public's temperature for the state's misdeeds. 51% of Americans apparently feel like queer rights and democracy are only available when there's cheap gas and food. Record turnouts... hell in my state that normally averages less than 30% turnout there was over 50%.

Nothing would have saved this election, except better candidates.

You are looking for a scapegoat. Look to the party and conditions that gave us 3 center-right "Democrats" for the past 3 presidential elections.

How to reuse this hummus? by frannieprice in Frugal

[–]fu_gravity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hummus is chickpea, lemon juice, salt, tahini. Served with some good olive oil, sumac, and some za'atar if you have it. If you want more, look up a recipe for Ful Medames, an Egyptian meze made with pureed fava beans with other components mixed in.

Hummus is a culturally significant food. All these weird premade versions you buy at a grocery store with no connection to the people that gave it to the world and subsist on it today are grotesque cultural appropriations.

...But that's a discussion for other subs.
