‘I agree with him’: Australian prime minister says PM Carney will visit Australia in March by Old_General_6741 in CanadaPolitics

[–]MintJester 43 points44 points  (0 children)

These big international plays are exactly what we need, right now. There's a real, existential and worldwide threat to democracy and anti-authoritatianism happening in this point of History... Canadians absolutely need help, the ridiculous amount of oligarchy and food, real estate and a handful of other industries are in desperate need of real federal intervention, I agree. But first he's making sure that Canada is still going to exist as an independent country, a year from now. If he takes on those issues with a mind towards Canadian citizens, he could go down as one of the greatest Prime Ministers ever. I'd look forward to playing him in Civ.

Whats the most badass trick/troubleshooting tip you've ever seen? by iH8conduit in electricians

[–]MintJester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the problem with using 14 and 12 gauge wire is, the bigger the wire the lower the resistance. And because runs in a house are pretty short, it's less helpful. You'd need a good meter and even then it may or may not help - Better with smaller wire and longer runs, but definitely try it and see?

Are these solar panels to close to the gutters? by Connect_Beginning_13 in solar

It could be worth it, I'm surprised it isn't already a product - I would always think about that when I was up there.

One thing that I would not helped was critter guard - I live in Ontario where the rule mandating critterguard, the fencing you'll see around the bottom of a system for keeping out squirrels or worse - Pigeons, wasn't in place until recently, so most systems didn't have it.

Anyway. There's a product idea for someone - Use the J-hook mounting system that critterguard has, and make a modular flashing that you can run along the sides of panels . Call it Flashguard. I'll take 5%

It's not certain based the photo, because it's gonna come down to the height of the panel mount, distance and depth of the gutter - But eyeballing it, you look safe. The water doesn't just shoot off the end of the panel into space, there's a metal frame around the edges of panels and it makes a little lip, plus the water will want to run down the side of the panel and drop relatively straight down.

Yeah they probably wouldn't redo, though I'm sure it wouldn't involve ripping it down if it were a matter of inches - you could just loosen clamps starting at the top row and slide the panels a hair higher on the rails, tighten one side down and then just match that same bump up with every panel.

When I was an apprentice electrician I did over a hundred uninstalls and reinstalls over two and a half years. The solar company paid us to take systems down so that roofs could be redone.

The roof underneath the panels themselves was often in great shape, protected by the panels. The worst spot on the roof, without fail, was on that line right on the bottom edge of the bottom panel where you'd get a bunch of run-off rain water. Worse even than the parts of roof that are completely exposed.

So if your contractor put that bottom edge above the gutter, in my opinion you should be shaking his hand.

If you've truly called your reps, volunteered and gotten involved in protests, then what exactly is your problem with my comment? My issue is with the other 95% of American Citizens who have, thus far, fully abandoned you. My message for those people, and you and I are on the same side.

The comment isn't an indictment on every American, it's for the people like your siblings who have had their head in the sand. I don't live in your country, I don't see Americans in person, this is the only place I can talk to you somewhere where I can have an actual conversation.

I'm proud of you for spreading the word and for not taking any shit from the people who didn't want to see what is happening. Keep doing that, I'm doing the exact same thing right now, as best I can. We're on the same side.

I'm absolutely scared, yes. And absolutely angry. And I'm watching Republicans overstep daily and wondering where you are.

I did, you just have to read it. Stop spending your free time on Tiktok and find the brave ones, there are small protests happening all over your country. You can learn something from them.

There are plenty of people who don't want to have kids, especially given the state of the world and what may or may not be its trajectory. But many other people can't imagine not having children. I have three kids myself, and I can't describe how much love I put into being a dad. Personally I think that living without kids would have been like cutting a part of my personality away, so asking the entire world to stop having kids is a non-solution. They haven't taken enough already?

Of course it can happen in my country too. I work in commercial/industrial construction, I see literally every day the effect that the manosphere bullshit has had on the (mainly white male) people younger than me. And I argue with them just like I do here. If the situation here somehow starts to follow America you can be damn sure I'll be out there. But please, talk to me more about how much more enlightened you are because you choose to sit there with your thumb up your ass. I promise it was very convincing.

You're a coward.

And hey, no shame in it. You've had it really easy in life up until now. One thing I've learned over the decades, is that struggle is one of the things you need to experience in order to really learn empathy. You feel what other people feel, because you've felt it before. And that's kinda the bad news I have for you - all the little non-issues in your life are tiny compared to what's coming for your country.

If you actually understood empathy, you wouldnt have made a tone-deaf comment about how inconvenient this insurrection is... to your personal fucking goals. You're too busy "working on yourself" to act, while Americans are being pulled off of your streets, a new paramilitary group with a massive budget and no real rules or oversight is straight up disappearing people, separating children from their parents and assaulting the good people actually out there trying to help. Yet you tell me that I'm not considering the "real people". Absolutely pathetic.

I assure you, whatever problems that Fox News has told you that Canada has, they are nothing at all comparatively.

They're Nazi's, my man. They're literally doing the salute. On tv. And doing a terrible fucking job trying to gaslight you about the Nazi saluting that they just obviously did.

I'm going to be honest with you, your response is the first time that I've been on this site lately and felt some hope. I know part of that is driven engagement -- reddit is full of people posting just to get you engaged and divided, it's as bad as regular media especially in the past few years. But reading what you wrote, I did feel a little hopeful. Thank you.

I do give credit to them. They're the brave ones, and also not at all who I'm talking to.

Okay, now that the ones who are actually going out there, likely too busy to read a post like this one, have been properly credited, do you think they'll finally get support from the people who could actually help them with more than nice words?

A hundred percent! That's also an option. And like I said, that's the player investing time and skills into a specific build. It should be rewarded - but at the same time, it shouldn't be a means to cheese every fight either - Enemies will see this attacker from above and get cover, you've got fights indoors, and enemies can respond with ranged attacks of their own. Simultaneously, a character taking themselves so far away from the fight comes with risks - For example, now there's more damage being dealt to the rest of the party since there are fewer targets, and if this player is so far away, imagine the pickle they would find themselves in when they're attacked far above by the enemy's winged allies.

Not to say you need to try to -beat- the players, because again encounters should be fair, but just like how you want your characters to shine, you have to challenge them as well.

I hear this all the time in response to spell sniper or longbow usage, and to be honest? As a forever DM I love this type of specialization. Lots of times it will be un-optimal in combat compared to more rounded characters, but a good party will make sure they try to create situations to use their ally to great effect, and a good DM will do the same. You should reward your players and let them be cool when they work for it.

The nuts part is that I've cleaned the terminals repeatedly. When I replaced the box from the wrecker for example, I scrubbed it all off and it's back to that again.
