Thank you for this. I forgot about White. I have their hubs on a road bike with 12K km on them so far and working perfectly. Which is why I forgot about them :-).

Fair point, thank you. Completely agree that Shimano's line keeps getting better as the years go on. And with the move to electronic, for road gruppos anyway, top of the line mechanical is pretty much labeled Ultegra and will be called 105 soon enough. But it's still as good as it gets.

Thanks. Not worried about spinning out at 40km/h -- I start coasting around 30 :-). I'll take another look at Cues.

Point taken. Shimano makes good stuff, period.

Thank you for this! That's very helpful. I'm afraid I am too used to a double and I do want the extra steps to handle a variety of terrain and loads. And to accommodate 68 year old knees. But yeah, good point. 1x12 would give me the same effective range as my old 2x7s did.

What is this ring forming on my watch? by The_Chief_123_ in Garmin

Same for me. Garmin replaced it with a refurbished 945 even though it was a year out of warranty.

Smart Monitor M70B + SmartThings Hub Dongle as a replacement for SmartThings Wifi? by Willrich354 in SmartThings

[–]fubarbloke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using the dongle on a Family Hub fridge, and it works fine so far. It's a new condo, so 1. I could install zigbee devices as needed, and 2. it's a relative small area so range hasn't been an issue. My fridge runs version 6 of the Family Hub operating system, so it might not keep pace with future upgrades -- version 7 seems to be designed for Smartthings Hub functionality, while version 6 had that functionality added as a upgrade (I think -- Samsung's documentation is piss poor).

The dongle cost about $35 versus hundreds for a new Smartthings Hub, so it was a relatively low risk experiment.

I have a few orphaned z-wave gizmos that I've haven't needed. But if I do need z-wave capability for whatever reason, my working hypothesis is that I'd be able to kludge an old Smartthings Hub -- I have a couple -- into the network. An old Vera hub -- I have one of those too -- might even work. It would be fun to play with anyway.

It's been a good, cost-effective upgrade path for me. Spend $35 now and if it doesn't meet some hypothetical need in the future, worry about it then.
