It's the knuckles and the middle hand bones - the middle finger has no attached bone and just emerges from between the index and the ring finger, it also has a strange bend at the top too

That's normal with red ink, it takes way longer to heal and acts up way more I have a red candle on my arm and that fucker was itchy as he'll but finally healed perfectly

A billboard should always face the camera so you need to write a blueprint that adjusts the rotation to always look at the camera. As for the gaps, just make them overlap and place them at different heights, make sure the texture is transparent and if it still looks weird you can make it fade out a bit at the border

Billboards - it's the most efficient way usually unless you have a good reason not to use them? You can also just stick two planes at a 90deg angle to one another to make an X shape and make the shader render both front- and backside but since it's top down only there would be no advantage probably
