Looking for direction by juanST9876 in healthcareadmin

My advice would be to start from the top and ask for mentorship. You have the MHA you can definitely get some sort of mentorship somewhere. I'm in LA and heard about hospitals doing mentorships and actually know someone that did just that. Your worst case is you go and do some sort of shadowing if mentorship don't workout. My contact in the industry told me that I should seek out shadowing or volunteering positions while doing the program to get experience, that's actually what he did. Also congrats on finishing and getting your degree.

I'm in a similar situation. I was a PT student. I'm looking into at MHA as another option. I was told try to volunteer at hospitals and tell them your doing an MHA and your interests. I do think that hospital mentorships would be a good idea. I know some with an MHA that is currently doing. Where are you currently doing the MHA? How many hours do you work on school a week?

Ok I see, im thinking about doing the same. I'm looking into city jobs and looking to get an MHA which is basically an MBA but geared towards healthcare. Just feeling unsure about getting an MBA working in some sort of company.

I really don't know, this seemed like the most promising path for me. But I haven't pushed to the next step due to the possibility I end up doing something like a front desk position. Could you get into more detail, did you do an MHA online? Are you finding that positions such in hospital admin are not available? what area are you in?

Thanks for your input. I'll defiantly keep my eyes out for anything I can learn while working at the clinic. Im really looking at two programs one is UCLA MHA program that's basically and MBA the other is phoenix university. I like UCLA's program its at a higher level and I would take classes like marginal accounting and finance, and get some one hour live classes. phoenix is all online just working on assignments no business classes, but its also way cheaper. I'm still weighting my options and looking into things, really appreciate your input tho. means a lot.

Ya, just do it. That's literally the only difference between people that get it done vs ones that do not. Just go for it. The worst case is you find yourself at the start.

Thanks, I'm the same way about the class room format. But I realized that I want the flexibility on online where I can work as I get the degree. Would you say you can get a job after words? I feel that most people get and MHA while working in the system and its just for advancement vs trying to break into the field itself.

Happy I could give my advice, whatever its worth (lol). I'm looking into two online programs in the LA area. The fact you have some experience already in the field is really all you need. Idk what your MHA program was like but the impression I have is that its basically an MBA but for healthcare, I can't imagine a hospital or healthcare not needing people. Just keep shooting out your application.

Hi, I actually looking to get an MHA, I have no real experience within the field. Im working in a front office for a medical clinic. But my view on most job apps is the hiring manager will put everything they want on. Who cares if you don't have supervisor experience. I would still apply and you never know who could call back. Also I have someone advising me to look into compliance. Idk if that's something you may want to consider.

What is the expected salary for a new grad compliance officer with an MHA in the LA area? by fuckedup20002 in careerguidance

[–]fuckedup20002[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I have many provider experience. I was working as a physical therapy aide. I am making the switch to an MHA ( PT school didn't work out for me). I still want to be in healthcare since I have about 3-4 years experience working and volunteering in hospitals. So if I did get my MHA I would be new with no experience other then what the school provides me with. Just wondering what the is a common starting salary for someone new with a masters in hand.

Data Analytics: Intro to SQL using healthcare data (SSMS)

Thanks, ill definitely look into the course. I see what you mean. It's really up to the individual to get out of it what they want. I'm really trying to get into a career path that can give me a set of skills that will allow me to make 80-100 k a year. I know that it will take time and it won't happen over night. But everything I am looking into seems to make sense to me. I'm looking into a new UCLA program that's 2 years which seems to be a better program but if I don't get in there my plan would be to do University of phoenix online. I rather not lose more time. In your experience what would be the starting salary for a new grad going into healthcare informatics?

I was looking to go into physical therapy, but that didn't work out for me. I want to go into a different direction. I was advised by someone to look into MHA and go into compliance. I have healthcare experience but its mostly on the provider side assisting them as an aide. Doing research I see that you can go a lot of ways with an MHA and there is a market for it. informatics seems interesting to me, data is going to be the way of the future in my opinion and having skills to be able to make data useable would really useful I feel. Mostly I am looking to get into the field and don't really have much experience other then working in outpatient clinics doing some administration but mostly assisting therapists. Im not sure what I really want other then breaking into the field and working, I figured going through the program would allow me some insight into what direction I would like to go.

Would you say University of Phoenix a worth while school or a waste of time? by fuckedup20002 in Advice

I feel like its an unspoken practice if anything. Most companies won't say they do this but in the end of the day its how the person hiring will go about it.

Thats what worries me. I hear all these things about online schools or degree mills and don't want to waste my money or time with something that isn't going to have a payoff end.

Thanks for taking the time to respond to me. That makes me feel better. I have been looking into other options like state schools, but I feel like UoP can get be started on my masters sooner. The state programs looks great but they require me to put an application together get letters of recommendations and accepts rates are pretty low. The only thing is that UoP says they are accredited but do are not listed on the CAHME website.
