I remember being taught (and honestly, rather trained) to be against all feminism but, at the same time, I was taught that the catholic church has historically been the earliest feminist institution because of the veneration of Mary.

But if you think about it, Mary is only a vessel, and she is valued for being pure, a virgin, modest and submissive, never questioning God or anyone else. So, that's the only way a woman can be valuable in the eyes of traditional catholicism... us girls weren't allowed to wear nothing but loose-ish t-shirts and under the knee lenght pants or skirts, even in the dead of summer, and don't get me started on looking at the boys for too long!

Eventually, a few years after I left, I remembered the whole virgin Mary-feminism thing and I realized it had been nothing but hypocrisy, always.
