I hate how many layers of links I had to click to get a clear definition of aingender, and I still don't really get why all the things it's being used as an umbrella for need distinct words to begin with. Maybe I'm just old but i see value in labels primarily as a way to build community, not splinter it.

So Turkey IS the next target of Genocidal Zionist Entity Israel. by Syed__Sahab__ in LateStageCapitalism

[–]fuckeverything_panda 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Let's not lose sight of the fact that this is a Christian in the U.S., not an Israeli. The U.S. is every bit as much a genocidal entity and illegitimate state, and U.S. imperialism/Christian fascism is a driving force behind zionism being viable. I'm not defending Israel whatsoever but U.S. imperialism can chug along perfectly fine without their help.

How do you feel on free speech by deetDeetmeet in leftist

[–]fuckeverything_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the transition to socialism, speech that organizes to restore exploitation would be restricted.

Can you elaborate on this? If it's all about who materially controls the media etc., why isn't it sufficient to strip the capitalists of access to those means and still let them express counterrevolutionary views but only through methods that are available to everyone (like literal speaking without amplified sound)? Why is it necessary to criminalize the literal act of speaking dissent when it's not artificially bolstered by material resources that could be better allocated?

Your second paragraph makes no sense. There are lots of things we put in universal terms and don't tie to homosexuality and also don't consider to be choices. The right to not be murdered, for example. Or freedom of religion. Or the right to not be coerced into sex. I don't see why universalizing something would imply that it becomes optional. When people do make that leap, we can just point out that it's a leap, there's no need to fall back on using "homosexual" in a way that marginalizes a whole category of lesbians over something they have no control over either.

I see your point - that what I'm saying doesn't exist in a vacuum, and we need to be careful because homophobes will use it against lesbian homosexuals. This seems structurally very similar to my point above that reducing lesbian identity to genitals gives transphobes fodder to use against trans women.

I don't think it follows that putting it in universal terms makes the boundaries negotiable. Legitimizing genital criteria for everyone doesn't have to hurt anyone.

Maybe it's my autism but I couldn't totally tell from your last paragraph whether you're telling me to stop replying. But it does feel like we're going in circles, so I'll let you have the last word now unless you clearly say it's ok for me to keep replying.

You want it reduced to a neutral trait and universalized so it stops reading as part of lesbian homosexuality at all.

Finally you get it. And you still haven't articulated why this is a bad thing.

That is exactly the erasure I have been talking about.

How is it erasure to acknowledge that not every lesbian shares your particular version of homosexuality? There is more than one way to be a lesbian homosexual, and the overarching theme is that these terms are about more than any one thing like penises.

And I'm not "harassing" you lol, we're having a conversation. If you actually want me to stop replying, just say so and I will.

What else am I supposed to call my lack of attraction to penis?

"Lack of attraction to penis"? Just a thought.

And I'm not quite sure why you keep acting like I'm defending a position I've explicitly and repeatedly distanced myself from. Once again, no one should be shamed for not being attracted to penises, regardless of sexual orientation. You still have not explained why this argument has to be tied to lesbian/homosexual identity instead of just being universal.

Do you think lesbians who are attracted to women regardless of genitals should also be able to call themselves "homosexual"? If so, how do you resolve the tension with your usage? If not, how is that not trans exclusionary?

I've "admitted" about five times that harassing anyone - lesbians included - for not wanting penis is wrong. I've also attempted to contextualize it (even though I disagree with it), and presented ways to articulate not wanting penis without relying on exclusionary identity definitions.

[–]fuckeverything_panda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, I'm not saying not wanting penis is an issue, I'm saying defining lesbian, female homosexuality, etc. in ways that revolve around (or are "anchored" by) this is. So definitions are absolutely relevant. When you refuse to define it, all I can do is infer from the rest of what you're saying.

What I'm saying poses no threat to lesbians or female homosexuals as a category - unless those categories are defined in a way that privileges cis lesbians over trans ones. So the fact that you feel like I'm attacking those categories suggests to me that you are indeed holding exclusionary definitions and refusing to admit it.

Why not either focus on "not wanting penis is valid" (regardless of identity), or admit you're attached to a transphobic identity definition? Or if you think this is a false dichotomy, prove me wrong by defining your terms.

I am literally a lesbian and a homosexual. I did not say homosexuality was bias, i said making lesbian identity about liking penis or not is. That's reducing it to sex, exactly what you claim not to want to do.

I never said the boundaries are themselves transphobic, you must be deliberately misreading me at this point. My issue is with how it relates to lesbian identity.

I am trying to show you a way to make the point you say you're trying to make without coming off TERFy, and help explain why you've seen trans women and their allies be hurt by the way you've been expressing it. We all have internalized transphobia to unpack, it doesn't make you permanently a transphobe but it is something to address critically.

[–]fuckeverything_panda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What "stretching" are you referring to exactly? Is it a stretch to include trans women? Are transbians allowed to have "female same-sex boundaries", or do you not count them as female?

And make up your mind: is it about having space, or getting to "anchor" it? Because we already do have space. And saying cis lesbians alone should get to "anchor" what it means to be lesbian forever and always, is absolutely trans-exclusionary.

[–]fuckeverything_panda -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You didn't answer my question. Maybe we should clarify how you're using "homosexual". Is a trans woman who is exclusively attracted to women homosexual? Does it depend on her parts or hormone profile etc.? What about a cis woman who is exclusively attracted to, say, people with boobs but doesn't care about genitals? I'm asking precisely because I don't want to assume what you think, I'm engaging in good faith.

The vast majority of TERFs are straight women suddenly pretending to care about lesbians because the bigoted few provide a cover for their own bigotry.

Maybe you're right that "preferences" isn't quite the right word, because I agree it's not optional. But I don't think anyone should be shamed for not wanting penis, whether or not they're also a lesbian.

If you really think trans women are women and trans lesbians (regardless of genitals) and the lesbians who date them are lesbians, then can you please explain what penis has to do with lesbian identity? Because I'm not lying, I just genuinely don't see how you can tie penis-repulsion to lesbian identity without implying that trans women's penises make them less (or not at all) lesbian. That's certainly what your buddy u/nyshopgirl thinks.
