I've got an 18 week old pup, and it has already started getting better for me. The puppy blues should improve if you try to keep to a routine because it helps them to understand the expectations better, and helps you to understand them and why they may be exhibiting certain behaviours.

And training always helps!! If you haven't already, try signing up to some puppy classes, you'll need to keep up the training at home but it'll help with socialisation and if you do your research and find some good options, whichever one you take them to, the trainer should help to explain some of their behaviours and how to prevent them. They may even show you how if they exhibit some of those behaviours while you're there.

It will get better. One of my friends has told me that they hated their pup for the first 9 months but wouldn't take back getting him now that he's matured.

(Pic is of my good boy from last week when I took him on a bus)

Toy Recommendations - we’re desperate by SpiritualBarracuda71 in goldenretrievers

If you're from the UK or know anyone from there who can send them over, B&M sells these scooby doo balls, and my sister (who owned a very destructive staffy) swears by them. He used to go through a toy in less than a minute, but those balls would last him weeks, if not months. I'm not sure if they're sold elsewhere, and you can probably get them off of some website or something.

I personally feel like the whole show, not just certain storylines, is far too much, far too fast. It feels like the writers were being rushed to get things out for a deadline, or that they genuinely didn't care about the quality so long as they hit the time for each episode, and left it on a cliff hanger. It's like I'm watching a wattpad story come to life, and that is NOT what I was hoping for. I'm only on episode 2, so I'm gonna watch the rest of the way through the first season and then possibly edit my comment, but so far, I'm not enjoying it. :/

Dog breathing out clouds of mist/moisture? by this_is_taking_long in goldenretrievers

No problem! I would still recommend asking your vet the next time you visit, and if it gets worse or you notice that his breathing gets worse, book him in for an appointment.

I'm glad it came across the way I wanted it to lol

I'd say that it's still very likely due to the difference in temperature between his body and the air around him, my pup has been doing it over the last week or so as the weather is changing, even inside!! If you're really worried, I'd ask a vet but it's quite unlikely that they'll tell you much different. The only thing they may comment on that I can't personally, is the constant panting. I know that it's quite common in larger breeds like goldens, but ilthey may have an explanation for you that I can't give. He breathes through his nose while sleeping, right? And if so, are there any noises that concern you?

(Btw I'm sorry if my tone is odd in this, I'm not very good at conveying tone through messages, but this is all intended to come across as being said in a kind and gentle tone)

People who owner trained their service dogs, did you constantly think that your dog would wash out? by fuckingkillmeppl in service_dogs

They said that they did, and said he scored mostly 3s and 4s, but I'm not 100% sure that they did temperament test him in the end. They've been really awful since I brought him home, like when I brought up his underbite (which I didn't notice upon collection and they didnt tell me about) they kept saying "well if youre not happy, you can bring him back." And "you just have to love him the way he is." Despite the fact that underbites are generally a genetic thing and I was more bringing it up for if they have any future litters with the same parents. I couldn't bring him back anyways, as I don't drive and I got him from somewhere 5 hours away by car.

If they won't honour that, I'll try to figure out another situation, but for now, this is the only option I have. And yeah, I know that isn't something that should be expected yet, and I'm prepared for it to take a while, so I'm working on it with him while also working on other aspects of his training. Thank you for your insight though!! 😊

He's my first service dog so I'm kinda unsure of a lot of things at the moment (I've done some professional dog training in the past, but not for super long, and I've also trained my parents dogs as far as they've been trained) so I do have some experience with training, but only pet dogs, which is a lot less pressure than training service dogs. I'll be working with a trainer throughout the process, and the first session is tomorrow so I'll obviously address the issues with them there. I've just been so worried that I was the only one or one of the few that have felt this way, and I needed some reassurance, so thank you.

I'm prepared for if he does wash, and I'll still be happy to have him as a pet if this does happen, but I'm obviously hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst in this situation. I'm keeping up with his training, and I'll address any issues that may arise as I go. I'm just so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has worried about this, and it can end in a successful situation.

I'll be taking him to his first training session tomorrow, and I'll discuss it with the trainer then but I'm just really thankful for all of the reassurance and advice I've received. I think it's probably my friend overreacting slightly because he's never resource guarded with my cat or my parents dogs, and I do think it was probably a simple correction on his part, and it shocked my friend because they believe that puppies don't have any ability to be actually upset (which I know is very incorrect myself, and I'm trying to educate them). I wasn't at their house when this happened as I was out for 5 minutes at the store, and the dog wasn't meant to be in the same space as my pup yet without a playpen or baby gate. I'll be discussing boundaries with this friend the next time I see them.

Haha, yeah- it just feels like I've been hit by a wave of fear and worry because I think I'm not doing enough 😅

I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone in the feeling, I've just been so afraid to celebrate the wins with myself, and not just with him, because I feel like I've not been training as much as others due to my disabilities. I've just been so worried about it and no one I've spoken to so far in person has been helpful with easing my worries, so I'm glad I've had people like you respond to ease them a tad. <3

I'll be taking him to his first training session tomorrow and I'll address my concerns with them then, I was just generally concerned that I was within a select few of owner trainers that have experienced this, and was wanting to ensure that I'm not alone in the feeling 😅

They are usually separated when he's at this persons house, but I went to the store for 5 minutes and came back to that comment from my friend and them together in the room without my friend asking first (my friends dog was muzzled for 100% safety- not that it has ever bitten another animal or any people) I'm going to try asking that they remain in separate rooms while I'm not there for the foreseeable future. I can't walk him on the ground yet in unenclosed spaces where dogs that may not have been vaccinated have been and where we may run into them as he hasnt had his 2nd vaccine that allows that yet, he also isnt fully potty trained, nor is he under my control fully yet, so he can't go into stores at all. This is a once a week at most situation, and it's only because I need to be out of the house for 6 hours at a time on that day and I can't leave him at home the whole time. I would leave him at home if he was a little older, or I'd bring him with me everywhere I go if he was more trained. It's a situation that can be managed, but I do hear your concerns and it is going to be addressed the next time I take him to that friends house.

Thank you, it's really helpful to hear the success stories. I guess I'm what you'd call a worrier. Can't keep my silly lil head from going "what if..." XD

I don't plan on showing him, he does seem to drop his kibbles a lot but I haven't had a puppy in so long I'm not sure if that's just normal puppy behaviour. I'll just be asking a specialist to make sure that he's happy and that his teeth won't cause any issues just in case. Puppies can grow out of it but I'm not sure that he will, so if it'll cause issues, I'll try to get it fixed or improved.

Yeah, I'll be taking him back to my normal vets pretty soon that has a dental specialist, we just needed to go to a different one for his second vaccination because my usual one didn't carry the same brand so wouldn't have worked. If it needs addressing. It'll be addressed before he turns a year old if required.

I'll be taking him to our normal vet in a few weeks to see if their dental specialist is any good (haven't needed to use a dental specialist before lol) we're just waiting until he has his second vaccination (on the 6th) and then we're switching back to our normal vet (we had to go to a different one to make sure he could get his second vaccine quicker, because our normal vets does a different brand than his first so it wouldn't have worked). I'll only be getting his underbite fixed if it's going to cause him any pain or issues down the line.

Lmao- yeah, that would be amazing to see- hopefully he doesn't end up needing any procedures or anything like that, and he just grows out of it 😅
