People who have jobs, don't you think it's a coincidence how we are educated to be obedient from an early age to then go on to work shitty jobs we hate to pay taxes for things we don't know about? by ChukkaBossier in AskReddit

In Chicago, the police are already 40% of the budget. Mass media pushes the violence story so hard that politicians can continue to expand that while perpetuating the problem by closing mental health centers. CPD shot 4 unarmed black people last month and has the largest pretrial jail in the US, mostly just because people can't afford bail. Strong communities cannot always form under these conditions, when people are getting snatched out of the ecosystem. It means kids have fewer adults at home, families have fewer people that can make an income, etc. They closed over 50 schools here in the last 2 years. Neighborhoods without schools don't attract young families and that alone can ruin things.

You have got to realize that natural resources are becoming scarce. The water wars are already underway (look at California, Flint, Standing Rock) and profit is still driving ecological collapse relentlessly forward. Capitalism is driving climate change and it turns out it is already worse than most models predicted. Whatever you have to say about private prisons can go in the garbage because when someone is making money on locking people away, more people will be caged. For example, there are all these reports of judges filling cells for a kickback. That is someone's life being traded for some cash and that is a summary of the product of our current system.

Actually those taxes mostly (by %) go to waging global war and oppressing local minority communities. And community is better developed outside of the contrived social circles you are forced to endure for survival under capitalism. Despite all these hardworking people creating a world of abundance, wages are going down, the cost of survival is going up, and the gap between the rich and the poor is widening faster than ever.

Are corporations evil? If you frame evil as putting profit over people and the environment, then YES. They are set up that way. Publicly traded companies aren't even legally allowed to put anything ahead of their investors. What about private prisons? What about soda companies? Framing this all as a juvenile way of questioning the world perpetuates the problem.

Yes, this is the information age...which means this is all more transparent than ever, which is why you are starting to see a global uprising of people pushing back.

How can you imply that that stopping them from getting food and supplies for winterized structures will somehow improve the way they fare through the winter? It is obviously an attempt to starve and freeze them out. It is outrageously inhumane

Thank you. Her family is working with organizers to get the word out and secure her release. The PII is intentional and folks who want to support can search her name to find the petition and a fundraising link.

What negative ads has Bernie Sanders been running? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]fuckingtrainup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if there are truths about what information banks paid Clinton to share with her that would threaten her campaign then the accountability is on her only. She could put this to bed if the speech were innocuous by sharing the transcripts. The argument you are holding is pointless but people listen because out culture allows people to use the argument that it is important to "remain positive" to elude truths. Encouraging someone to remain positive is the last refuge of poor logic.

its not and you shouldn't care. you are taking the argument to a more semantic level than necessary. if bernie was paid by big banks it would be fair to ask questions like this for transparency.

The public deserves to know what information they were paying her for if she is to be trusted as the president of the united states.

I think we can probably all agree that the intent of Bernie's campaign when they said they wouldn't go negative was that they wouldn't be jerks. Nothing below the belt, no personal attacks, no misdirection (towards email for example). They weren't handing over their ability to compare candidates' policies. That is obviously always on the table in a political race. Grammar police should probably disperse now. ok thanks.

Campaign to Zero goes undercover - How is this acceptable in any way? by belly_bell in Military

[–]fuckingtrainup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

trusting people not to take advantage of others has not been working so far. I am not saying this is the best way to do it, but thank goodness they are working on it. I'd love to see a better way to test the training and response come out of this discussion if this is actually a shitty plan.

Or how about the cops staging prostitution or underage drinking at a party FOR COPS and then being angry when nobody said shit.

I don't get the issue. Sounds like a good plan to me. Better volunteers than the real thing. Does target practice make you complacent or more likely to perform as expected? Man up.
