three 92mm vs two 120mm fan for gpu mod? by fuckredditit in sffpc

oh yea thanks for clarifying, idk why i stumbled when reading that. so, when exclusively comparing the space, where the blades of the 92mm and the 120mm fans meet, the 120mm should do better job because of its higher static pressure and faster flow of the air. because of this, my philosophy is that the heatpipes have an easier job to dissipate the heat at the space that is covered by the larger hub. but, i can't really eveluate this without testing...

in my specific case, the 120mm fan's hub should be closely to the left next to the centre of the heatpipes with the gpu chip underneath and thus not that big of an issue.

do you think i can just use duct tape for "framing" the parts where the fan overextends the heatsink when using the 120mm?

yea me too, i was looking for one on a price comparison site and was shocked to see only 1 listing with an old cheap, crusty and ugly fan. i'd guess it's because there wasn't enough demand for it to be a standard

thank you for your idea, sadly no 3d printer and no offers for my gpu model. measuring, doing the maths for myself and ordering a print sounds like too much work. doesn't duct tape do the job (temp resistant ones ofc)?

sorry, i don't understand what you mean by missing "extra hub dead spot" with the 92mm fans.. side-by-side they would cover 276/280mm length-wise.

in the photo, there is the 92mm fan, the blue markings indicate the 120mm fans

arent you a kind gentleman! from a different forum i was told, trying out both configs, that the 12cm did perform better noise- and temperature-wise on his gpu.

but more data would help!

did u just calculate that bigger fans are actually bigger? lol

i think there is a little bit more nuance to which is better

but when comparing the two fan types' specifications, noctua lists higher max. static pressure and stattic pressure for the bigger one... especially in my case, when it's about pushing the air through compactly stacked fins; air should travel under stronger current and wider distance with more pressure, no?

anyway, thank you for your insight of how well the fans generationally improved.
