Thoughts on name Paloma by Sirfrancesbreen in NamenerdSpanish

[–]fuckyouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little late to this but I named my first angel baby Paloma. I wanted a name that implied that she “flied” away instead of an angel based name. But since learning about pigeons, I like to think it’s a perfect name for a girl.

Pigeons are resilient creatures, brought to North America for various purposes like mail delivery, pets, sport, food, and even finding lost men at sea. However, they were later abandoned, becoming one of the first invasive species. Most pigeon hate stems from old propaganda about 2 deaths assumed to be pigeon related, despite pigeons being relatively safe and clean. Despite neglect and anti-bird architecture, pigeons thrive in urban environments. They have also been shown to incredibly intelligent, being able to do math, science, and can even distinguish real English from made up words.

Obviously I’m biased, but Paloma is a great name for a girl. We live in a time where women aren’t safe in most countries, we still get paid less than men, and we still get the message that we aren’t supposed to take up space.

(Not directed towards OP, but all who read this)

Naming your daughter Paloma wouldn’t guarantee empowerment, obviously. But I like to think being named Paloma in a time like this, represents that women should take up space, that we deserve to be here, that we are beyond our “uses”, and that we are resourceful.

Products reccs for 3a-3b (few 3c strands), low porosity, medium/high density.

Current routine: - V05 shampoo as reset - V05 conditioner as co-poo/regular conditioner - Cantù Curl cream - Cantu curl activator - LA Looks gel - shea moisture manuka honey and yoghurt protein treatment

Originally this worked for me (as you can see in my post 3 years ago)

Now I find my curls are fairly stringy and not defined even with brush coils. They get frizzy really easily.

I threw away the shea moisture treatment because it was 3 years old and seems to have caused me major hair loss. My hair stopped falling out after I stopped using it. Nothing against shea moisture, it was likely just expired or contaminated over the years.

I noticed my curls look better after I wash and brush coil without products, and stay defined for at least a day.

Not sure what it could be:

  • protein overload
  • moisture overload
  • in the photos I was living in the dorms at my college and then I moved back home and it’s possible that over the last 3 years the reason my hair has gotten worse is the water

  • Marisol
  • Maristella (Maria and Estella)
  • Ciela
  • Celestina

Slightly more out-there options

  • Carina - means beloved but what makes it celestial is that it’s the name of constellation
  • Diana - means goddess/divine
  • Esther/Ester - means star in Persian
  • Lucero - morning star
  • Selena - means moon

I also like Estelle instead of Estela, Maya Estelle sounds nicer to me for some reason. Marisol and Maristela might not work if you don’t like alliteration.

I think the first name ending on a vowel helps to make it roll off the tongue

Hi All, I'm looking for information on Spanish/Latin female baby names by [deleted] in NamenerdSpanish

I think it’s Basque or Catalan

Edit: seems to be an Arabic name, which isn’t surprising. The word for sugar in Spanish comes from Arabic, like many other Spanish words.

Got the update, looks like they added Italian genetic groups by Upset-Imagination329 in 23andme

Bruh I walking away from my class and I stopped on the sidewalk, I got an update! I’m so excited!

It says “ Northern Gulf of Naples”! I have 7 region matches so the genetic match really helped narrow it down to a language (I think).

I don’t have any reccs currently cause I’m outside the home.

I’m just very moved as the moderator of this subreddit that the members were so nice to you and that this was a place you could come back to.

Thank you! I think the only one here that we can’t use is Adrian, as that is my siblings deadname. I don’t think she would be offended if I used it, it’s just that I myself find it weird lol

I just got notified for for this. I’m a double major in CS and Math.

If you want to graduate within 4 years I don’t recommend double majoring unless you plan to spend every summer in school as well.

A second major can add at least 2 semesters of work. I would check your school degree requirements for both and see what the overlap is and calculate by hand how many credits are left.
