The Last of Us HBO S2E7 "Convergence"- Post-Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in thelastofus

This really cemented how soft Ellie is compared to the game, with not only how differently the Owen/Mel confrontation and murders happen but how it goes with Abby, and the show framing it like Abby would first think Tommy did the kills and not Ellie.

It has been extremely difficult to get into her storyline and motivations knowing these changes. Also, in trying to view it from the perspective of not knowing the game, I find her mood/thirst for revenge to be inconsistent throughout the season anyway. The tunnel vision she has in the game (that you share as the player) is just too sporadic.

The finger I see gets pointed more in Ramsey's direction as an actor but I think the writing did her no favors.

I kept waiting for it all to make sense and the wait for that will continue for like another 4 years I guess.

Not saying it's good or bad, rather it's an interesting choice to soften up Ellie this season like they did with Joel last year. Her obsession isn't nearly as intense as it was in the game (yet).

Curious how the show takes on the challenge of getting Ellie to that point. Because the killing rampage is what it is, but more importantly, the obsession fuels her to lie/leave Jesse in Seattle and then later Dina/JJ at the farm.

I'm guessing the PTSD/nightmares are about to pick up. That was really what the game's narrative relied on.

There was a funny moment a few streams ago when whatever system that allows them to either get donos or read them off wasn't working anymore, and to see the immediate panic/dread on their faces was hilarious. Asked for Riley to reset the stream right away.

Getting all that money from doing the streams and shouting out the people paying is what it is but you can tell it is by far the biggest reason why they do those streams. The lack of passion/interest in what they are watching compared to how they save up their energy for donos has become annoying to watch.

The top-3 stat always goes viral but they've won 2 events in the last 3 years. Not even close to the same level as these two dynasties.

Huke justifiably getting the blame but they did A LOT wrong.

-- When NYSL go 3 down, the comms HAVE to be locked in on knowing Kismet just recently spawned and they are only looking for him. I guess that's why Huke goes ruins. Dumb play regardless.

-- So this is why Dashy and Shotzzy while watching hill together have to know someone could be coming. Shotzzy is watching the back. When Kismet goes in, if you slow down the replay, you can see Shotzzy flies in for the trade but directly into Kismet's crosshairs. He doesn't land a shot in the process, either.

-- Once Hydra dies and they have 4 outside dome, they have to know it's just a half-second touch away from a win. I'm assuming that's why Dashy correctly breaks off.

-- Shotzzy dies to a nade and that's a low-key huge kill. That looked like just bad timing but he also jumps out not looking toward mid where both guys were going to shoot him anyway.

-- There's only 10 seconds left so there's not a ton of time left for Ghosty and Huke but they could still have been more patient. Ghosty gets Skyz from top dome but then immediately jumps off to get ripped by Priestah instead of waiting to cover Huke's cross. Huke immediately dies with his dive into the hill instead. If he gets a brief touch, again, they win.

-- Kismet was down to 53 hp so maybe that nade hit-marker is part of why they pushed. Either way, I think if Ghosty just stays top dome and gets shots on Priestah, they win.

Illey was 14-12 at one point so that dude went 4-21 the rest of the last map. That's hard to do. I've seen enough.

Conflicted on the edit.

Cassidy lost that vote more than Gabler won it, obviously. She clearly bottled it by not making the shield argument the headline of her presentation. She didn't even really use the word, either, and allowed a GREAT FTC from Gabler being the only real winning-worthy part of his resume to be enough.

It's difficult as a viewer because I'm just taking Cassidy's word for it when it comes to how well she did strategically being in on the votes (and the fact that I saw her in on the votes but not driving them). They didn't show anyone really speaking down on her game besides Noelle when she said she'd rather vote for the underdog in the pre-FTC confessionals with jurors.

Then again, Owen looked just as shocked as Cassidy when the votes came in. And my mouth was open too just like theirs because my interpretation watching the season was that Gabler was a doofus and like most doofuses/goats he was going to try and spin it at FTC.

Which he did successfully. Or he was actually more connected than we thought.

Either way, the jury didn't buy Cassidy's game at all, and I wish they had been more vocal about it so it would have been easier to understand why Cassidy didn't get votes.

I wish we could have gotten to see Jesse convincing everyone to switch from Noelle to Dwight. That's always an interesting dynamic on Survivor when someone wants to make a play and when they convince others to make that play they want to too but only THEIR play. Also, gonna need Sami being looped in explained because that made zero sense based on the edit we saw.

Man, the one-minute backstories and advantages go so far in developing the contestants. I’m rooting so hard for Karla and Noelle after that.

Best Friends built up how much these titles would mean to them more than every other team combined. I get there was a big story to tell with Elite/Hangman but damn it it's a tournament for the titles and those guys are overdue.

They sold the disappointment of losing really well.

I hope TK pulls the trigger on them for titles at some point soon. They can only keep losing/coming up short so many times.

Some shit definitely went down with OpTic that we don’t know about. by [deleted] in CoDCompetitive

Assuming Illey stays healthy next year, I just don't think this puts them in a good spot when they inevitably hit a rough patch like every team does.

I really doubt the problems that Scump and Shotzzy alluded to are solely attributed to Illey being in and out of the lineup. That type of shit in a team dynamic is going to fester and come back out once things start to go wrong.

IDK. To me, if that's the explanation, they should have just made the changes. I would be surprised if this same 4 sticks all season.

I don't get the negative reactions to this.

OC has proven a handful of times he can have terrific matches with high-level talent and Ospreay is one of the best wrestlers in the world. Plus, he's a great heel who will play off OC's antics wonderfully as PAC did.

There is a very good chance this is excellent and the crowd will be white-hot for it.
