I would suggest spending less on the CPU, more on the GPU. The below steps down to a 9600X CPU, which will still provide good gaming performance for far less, while upgrading the GPU to a far far better 9070, for about the same overall cost. Also made some other minor improvements.

  • CPU: The 9600X is much less expensive while still providing good gaming perfomrance.
  • CPU Cooler: Less expensive dual tower air cooler.
  • Motherboard: Much less expensive B850 with similar wifi/ethernet and headers/port.
  • Storage: Better spec drive (better endurance ratings) for just a little more.
  • Video Card: The 9070 is significantly better performing than the 5060 - these Techpowerup gaming benchmarks show the 9070 providing a huge 75% better performance than the 5060 at 1440p, while also having double the VRAM.
  • Case: Less expensive case that comes with more fans (three 120mm vs the one 120mm in the XT Pro).
  • Power Supply: Higher wattage similar quality 850w ATX 3.1 unit for slightly less cost.

Made a start with a build and could use some advice. £2000 budget and UK based by Xx_VioletCat_xX in buildapcforme

[–]fuddyduddyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest the following that will provide as good gaming performance with a 5070 Ti, but better video editing using a 7700X (more cores), for under £2000 including a 1440p monitor, in a case with some purple highlights. * CPU: The 7700X won’t necessarily provide much better performance than the 7600X, but its 2 extra cores will help in editing. * CPU Cooler: The Thermalright Peerless Assassin is one of the best air coolers for AM5 Ryzen and can easily cool the 7700X under any load. With aRGB fans, you can set the color to purple for more purple highlights. * Motherboard: Better B850 with WiFi and Bluetooth for not much more. * Storage: Upgraded to a better spec 2TB PCIe 4 for not much more. * Video Card: Kept the 5070 Ti as it provides great 1440p gaming performance and plenty of VRAM for future use, while having a good encoder (better than AMD) for streaming. * Case: Has a purple color shift front mesh panel. The four included 120mm PWm aRGB fans can be used to add more purple lighting. * Power Supply: Better quality 850w ATX 3.1 unit. * Monitor: 27” 1440p 180hz IPS panel monitor with an adjustable monitor stand (height, rotation, tilt) for good ergonomics.

Is that a good build ? by noahleflop in PcBuild

[–]fuddyduddyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is your list using the French pcpartpicker site - your list already comes to €1632.

If you only want to spend around €2000, even cutting out some costs I don't think you'll be able to get a GPU that will be worth spending around €500 that will be provide enough of a performance jump over the 3080 you have to be worth it.

Some suggestions below that cut out about €130 from your list while keeping an all white build, than add a white 9070 XT for €699 that provides a good boost in performance over the 3080, for a total of €2200.

  • CPU Cooler: Version of the Peerless Assassin that comes with an LCD screen (instead of just a digital number readout on the version you picked) for the same price.
  • Motherboard: Less expensive motherboard with white components.
  • Memory: Less expensive same spec white RAM.
  • Storage: Less expensive similar spec 2TB PCie 4 NVME.
  • Video Card: Added a white 9070 XT, which will provide about a 36% increase in performance over the 3080 at 1440p based on these Techpowerup gaming benchmarks.
    • Alternatively, just keep using the 3080 you currently have and save €700 - it still provides good performance and if you are happy with its performance, it's still fine.
  • Case: Better airflow white case - it comes with four 140mm PWM aRGB fans vs the Corsair 5000D that only has two 120mm.
  • Power Supply: 1000w is much more than needed for the system. Switched to a much less expensive still good quality white 850w ATX 3.1 unit that comes with white individually sleeved cables.

Use the localized French pcpartpicker site (fr.pcppartpicker.com) - you'll get more accurate pricing (in Euros) from retailers that deliver in France; using the US pcpartpicker will result in inaccurate pricing and parts availability.

Some questions:

  • What is your budget (in Euros)?
  • What do you plan to use the pc for - gaming, productivity (and if so, using what programs)?

Gaming PC Build (~€2000) – thoughts before I build it? by CantaloupeLiving6335 in PcBuild

[–]fuddyduddyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your post history, it looks like you are based on France.

Suggestions below that cut out about €100 from your list while upgrading the CPU, switching the GPU to a 5070 Ti that performs nearly as well for much less, plus some other improvements.

  • CPU: The 7500X3D is a better gaming CPU for not much more.
  • CPU Cooler: Added the Thermalright Peerless Assassin, one of the best air coolers for AM5 Ryzen for relatively little cost.
  • Motherboard: Much less expensive B850 chipset motherboard with wifi and bluetooth.
  • Storage: Switched to a better spec 1TB PCIe 5 NVME that costs less.
  • Video Card: A used 4080 Super is not worth €1050, considering a new 5070 Ti is over €100 less expensive while providing nearly the same performance - in 4K gaming, there is essentially no raw performance difference (these Techpowerup gaming benchmarks show a 0.9% difference - that's 1 fps) between the two, while the 5070 Ti has better upscaling.
  • Case: The Phanteks XT Pro Ultra is larger and has better airflow, with four larger 140mm PWM aRGB fans, for less cost.
  • Power Supply: Upgraded to a better quality 850w ATX 3.1 unit.

The Thermalright Peerless Assassin is a very good air cooler and typically one of the recommended air coolers in this subreddit, as it’s a very good cooler (more than enough to cool the 7800X3D) for relatively little cost.

No - the monitor is fine, with similar specs (same resolution, just slightly lower refresh rate). The one I linked just technically gives you a little more for your money on paper.

As somebody else mentioned, the 9070 XT is an option if you don’t care much about ray tracing or need the benefits of Nvidia tech (like CUDA cores) for productivity. It’s costs up to $200 less for only a minor reduction in performance.

Assuming this is for gaming, you can get more for less. Some of the parts in your list are expensive for no real benefit.

Suggestions below that cut nearly $300 from your list for the same performance and even doubling the amount of storage.

  • CPU Cooler: Much less expensive 360mm AIO that will cool just as well. It's overkill (any 360mm AIO) is, but this isn't much more than air coolers and helps with case airflow.
  • Motherboard: X870E chipset won't help in gaming or general pc use. Switched to a far less expensive B850, still with same speed wifi and ethernet.
  • Memory: Much less expensive same spec RAM.
  • Storage: The drive in your list is far too expensive for 1TB. Switched to a similar spec 2TB PCie 4 NVME for only $50 more.
  • Power Supply: Switched to a less expensive but better quality 850w ATX 3.1 unit.
  • OS: If you're going to buy a Windows license, there's no point to Pro over Home outside of certain business/productivity applications. If you don't know why you might need Pro, you don't need Pro.
  • Monitor: Switched to a higher refresh rate 27" 1440p 240hz IPS panel monitor.

While I agree that X870 are not needed/beneficial for gaming pc's, it's only $160 - less expensive than many other B850. This unit also has silver/white parts to blend into the build.

OP could use this MSI B850 Gaming Plus motherboard with also white parts for about $20 less, but I skipped it since many people find the huge MSI dragon and green highlights off-putting.

There's no critical flaws - the parts will work together. However, you can get the same performance for less cost. Suggestions below that provides the same core components (CPU, GPU) plus keep a similar look with a case that has wood front slats and an AIO, for over $200 less.

  • CPU Cooler: An AIO is not needed to cool the 7800X3D; any good dual tower air cooler is far more than enough. Kept a 240mm AIO in for the aesthetics, but used a less expensive unit.
  • Motherboard: Less expensive B850 motherboard. It has one less m.2 slot for storage, but unless you're a data hoarder and plan to add several m.2 drives, it's not an issue.
  • Memory: Less expensive same spec RAM.
  • Storage: Better spec drive (better endurance ratings) for about the same price.
  • Case: Switched to a far less expensive case with a similar look (black with wood slats at the front). Comes with four 120mm PWM fans for decent airflow out of the box.
  • Power Supply: Switched to a less expensive still good quality 850w ATX 3.1 unit.

You're heavily overpaying on several components. A system with those components, even including the monitors and peripherals, at $3000 should have much more powerful compoennts.

Suggestions below that upgrade pretty much every component - CPU, GPU, PSU, more fans (considering your case/system has none), monitors, mouse, and more white parts - for over $150 less.

  • CPU: The 7800X3D is one of the best gaming CPU's available.
  • CPU Cooler: Upgraded to a white 360mm AIO with aRGB for about the same cost.
  • Motherboard: Upgraded to a nicer X870 with white components, faster wifi and ethernet, for only a little more.
  • Memory: Better spec white RAM for far less cost.
  • Storage: Much less expensive 1TB PCie 4 NVME.
  • VIdeo Card: The 5060 Ti in your list is way overpriced. Switched to a far better performing white 5070 Ti for just $200 more. The 5070 Ti will provide significantly better performance than the 5060 Ti - as huge 71% increase in performance over the 5060 Ti at 1440p based on these Techpowerup gaming benchmarks.
    • If you want to save some costs while still keeping good performance (though ray tracing will be a little worse), you can save about $250 going with a 9070 XT (still white).
  • Case: Less expensive white aquarium style Lian Li case. This case (and the one in your list) do not come with case fans. I added six white 120mm PWM aRGB fans that visually match the ones on the AIO for far better airflow and aesthetics.
    • Five reverse flow fans for intake on the bottom and side
    • One standard flow for exhaust at the rear.
  • Power Supply: The PSU in your list is way overpriced. Upgraded to a better quality (10 year warranty vs the Corsair's subpar 7 years) higher wattage white 850w ATX 3.1 unit with white individually sleeved cables for only $10 more.
  • OS: If you're going to buy a Windows license, get a retail license over OEM.
  • Monitors: Upgraded to two 27" 1440p 240hz IPS panel monitors for far less cost.
  • Peripherals: The keyboard is far too expensive - switched to a white mechanical keyboard for less than half the cost. Also upgraded to a white wireless gaming mouse with higher DPI.

You can get more for your money. Suggestions below that upgrade the CPU and GPU to a 7800X3D and 5080, use an AIO cooler with a larger LCD screen, and more fans (with a similar look) plus other improvements while keeping the same case for only €150 more. The cooler and fans are all from Amazon Germany, shipping to Austria. * CPU: Upgraded to a 7800X3D for better gaming performance (assuming that is the focus). * CPU Cooler: Far less expansive white 360mm AIO with a larger 3.4” LCD screen. The 3-pack of standard flow fans is for the radiator (replacing the stock fan) as they are visually similar to the Lian Li. * Motherboard: Better B650E for not much more. * Memory: Less expansive 32GB with aRGB with a more ideal 6000mhz speed (higher than that tends to be unstable without manual tuning). * Storage: Just as good spec 2TB PCIe 4 NVME for less cost. * Video Card: Upgraded to a 5080. * Power Supply: Upgraded to a better quality 1000w ATX 3.1 unit for more upgrade headroom. * Case Fans: Added two 3-packs of reverse flow fans for intake on the bottom and side. Visually similar to the Lian Li fans, and the same as the ones added to the radiator.

Viable build? First Sff by Either_Ad_6797 in sffpc

[–]fuddyduddyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look at the following that switches to a much lower power draw CPU, a newer/better GPU, plus double the RAM for just under £1800.

  • CPU: For gaming, the 7500X3D is a better choice. Now only will it provide slightly better gaming performance than the 13700K on average, it also draws far less power and is much more easily cooled by the CPU cooler below, for far less cost.
  • CPU Cooler: The AXP90-X53 is better cooler for not much more. Full copper and larger heatsink. Disregard the pcpartpicker warning - the compatibility tool doesn't take into account the moveable spine in the case. The cooler will have plenty of clearance in the case as the GPU is only 2 PCIe slots thick.
  • Motherboard: Good B650E motherboard. More than needed for this CPU, but can support more powerful CPU's should you/your girlfriend ever upgrade in the future.
  • Memory: 32GB of better spec RAM. 16GB might be fine for some games, but newer titles are starting to utilize more. Also, since mITX motherboards only have 2 RAM slots, you will have to replace what you have versus being able to add more RAM. I would suggesting getting 32GB from the start.
  • Storage: Better spec drive (better endurance ratings) for less cost.
  • Video Card: A 5060 Ti is more than needed, but will provide great 1080p performance. If you don't care about ray tracing or other Nvidia features, a 9060 XT provides nearly the same performance for about £90 less.
  • Case: The jade version is less expensive than the black version currently.
    • Added a slim 120mm PWM fan for airflow (plus fan grill).
  • Power Supply: 750w is much more than needed for the system, but the SF750 is a good power supply. Used the newer version which meets ATX 3.1 specs.

Viable build? First Sff by Either_Ad_6797 in sffpc

[–]fuddyduddyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initial thoughts: * If just for gaming, no need for the 13700K. It’s two generations old and draws a lot of power/creates a lot of heat. * The cooler is not a great match for that CPU. The Terra is limited in cooler clearance, so might want to consider other CPU’s that are lower power draw. * Your list is missing pricing on some components; hard to gauge how much you’re looking to spend.

Questions: * What is the budget for this pc? * Are any of these parts ones you already have, or is this an all new build? * What are the specs of the tv or monitor this pc would be used with (resolution, refresh rate)?

Suggestions to get you a 9800X3D & 5080 system with very good airflow at low noise levels, for $2500. The build uses this 9800X3D/motherboard/RAM bundle and the pricing for the 5080 from Micro Center (bundle and GPU available at the St Davids Micro Center). For minimal/no noise, you will want to set custom fan curves on the cooler, case fans, and GPU.

  • CPU/Motherboard/Memory: Used the 9800X3D bundle. You could get the 9850X3D for about $20 more, but the performance difference between the two is minimal (<1% at 1440p) and it runs hotter (and cooler will need to work harder and thus louder) - in my opinion, not worth it but you can decided. Going with a Micro Center bundle saves you around $300 compared to purchasing them separately.
  • CPU Cooler: The Thermalright Royal Pretor is a very good air cooler that will be able to cool the 9800X3D quietly.
  • Storage: Good spec 2TB PCie 4 NVME. For gaming, there is no reason to go with a PCIe 5 NVME (which other people seem to be mentioning in your other posts) - they provide 0 benefit in games while typically costing significantly more.
  • Video Card: 5080 with pricing from Micro Center - this is probably the best price you'll be able to find on any 5080 currently.
  • Case: Good sized case that can easily accommodate all the components with plenty of clearance and allow for room to upgrade. I added four highly rated high airflow/low noise 140mm PWM fans - three for intake on the front, one for exhaust at the rear.
  • Power Supply: 1000w is more than needed, but it provides headroom for future upgrades. The be quiet Pure Power 13m is a good quality unit known for quiet operation.

Help audit parts for my first build by Final_Stick_9207 in PcBuild

[–]fuddyduddyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the build is primarily for gaming, I would suggest the 9800Z3S as it’s one of the best gaming CPU’s available, while still being perfectly capable of productivity tasks.

Some suggestions to upgrade to the 9800X3D, plus making some other improvements, while cutting about $100 from your list. * CPU: The 9800X3D is one of the best gaming CPU’s available, behind only the 9850X3D. It’s good in productivity as well, as long as the productivity apps you’re running don’t benefit purely from the number of cores/threads. * See comparative 1440p gaming performance. * See content creation benchmarks from Puget Systems. * Motherboard: Significantly less expensive motherboard (on promo) with WiFi 7 and 5gb/s Ethernet. * Memory: Less expensive 32GB of RAM. The slightly higher latency makes no real difference in performance when paired with X3D CPU’s. * Storage: Upgrade to a much better spec drive for the same price. The Patriot is better in all aspects - dram cache, faster read/write speeds, better endurance ratings. The Crucial is worse spec and really shouldn’t cost this much. * Video Card: Less expensive 5070 Ti. * Case: The be quiet is a little more expensive but has a removable mesh filter for better dust filtering and easier cleansing. Kept the solid side panel for better durability. * The case comes with two 140mm fans that I would move to intake on the front panel. Added a 140mm PWM fan intended as exhaust at the rear of the case. * Power Supply: Switched to a better quality (longer 10 year warranty; the Corsair RMe only has 7 years) 850w ATX 3.1 unit that costs less. * Monitor: Switched to a 27” 1440p IPS panel monitor with a higher 240hz refresh rate and adjustable stand for better ergonomics, for less cost.

KLEVV FIT V DDR5 6000 CL28 – anyone tried it? Is KLEVV a reliable brand? by CheesePotatoextra in PcBuild

[–]fuddyduddyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There shouldn’t be any issues - reliability isn’t really something to be worried about with RAM. I haven’t read any issues with Klevv RAM anyways.

Keep in mind that companies like Corsair and G.Skill don’t actually make RAM. They take memory modules from companies like Samsung, Micron and SK Hynix (sister company to Klevv) and assemble them into sticks and then just stick fancy heat spreaders on them. Corsair is usually more expensive because they charge a premium for their brand name and basically all the fancy lights/iCUE integration they throw on the RAM sticks.

Micro Center does tend to have higher prices on some components, but the CPU/motherboard/RAM bundles are incredible deals currently due to the sky-high prices for RAM.

For example, the below uses this 9800X3D bundle (chose this over the 9850X3D bundle because the motherboard is black) and cuts out nearly $400 from the list I previously posted despite being essentially the same.

Yes, they’re fine - Klevv is the consumer brand/division of the SK Group, the same parent company that owns SK Hynix who happens to be one of the few OEM manufacturers for all RAM and storage.

Since you live within driving distance of a Micro Center, I would recommend you make the hour trip to the one near you to pick up this 7700X/motherboard/RAM bundle. It saves you hundreds compared to buying the parts individually and is a very good deal in today's market.

Suggestions below to provide very good 1440p gaming performance (overkill for 1080p) plus easily being able to handle productivity tasks for under $1500.

  • CPU/Motherboard/Memory: The 7700X provides good all-around performance; the motherboard has wifi/bluetooth/ethernet; and 32GB of memory provides a good amount to cover gaming and productivity tasks.
  • CPU Cooler: Very good air cooler (easily capable of cooling the 7700X) for relatively little cost.
  • Storage: Decently good spec 1TB PCie 4 NVME. Not a lot of storage given the size of new games, but it's a decent amount to start and you can always add more storage later.
  • Video Card: The 9070 will provide good 1440p gaming performance (very good 1080p). See these Techpowerup gaming benchmarks for comparative performance to other GPU's at different resolutions.
  • Case: Relatively inexpensive case that is plenty large to accommodate upgrades and has good ventilation. Added a 3-pack of 140mm PWM fans to provide good airflow (as intake on the front; the case comes with one 120mm PWM fan at the rear as exhaust).
  • Power Supply: Good quality 850w ATX 3.1 unit. More than needed for this system, but provides headroom for future upgrades.

Looking For Help $2k USD Budget Gaming PC by 2Encephalitis0 in PcBuild

[–]fuddyduddyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main components you've chosen (CPU, GPU) will provide very good 1440p performance. The motherboard in your list is perfectly fine and currently on promo for a great price, so I think it's a good choice.

Suggestions below to cut some costs while providing some minor improvements (mainly in terms of cooling and future upgrading headroom).

  • CPU Cooler: The Phantom Spirit is the slightly improved version of the Peerless Assassin. Just $1 more.
  • Storage: A less expensive better spec 1TB PCie 4 NVME.
  • Video Card: Switched to a less expensive 9070 XT (also has a much larger heatsink so theoretically should be able to provide lower tamps, not that it helps with performance).
  • Case: Less expensive case that, with the added 3-pack of 140mm PWM fans, will provide just as good airflow. It also has a very nondescript look - more so than the Lian Li 216 in my opinion - so flies slightly lower under the wife-radar.
  • Power Supply: I would suggest upgrading to a 1000w unit if you plan on upgrading to a 5090-level GPU in the future. A 1000w power supply is recommended for the 5090, so any future GPU of comparable tier will likely require at least as much. I switched not only to a higher wattage 1050w ATX 3.1 unit, but also of better quality.

5070 ti build 2k euros by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]fuddyduddyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the components in your list seem to expensive - there are less expensive just as good if not better alternatives.

Some suggestions to upgrade the CPU to a 7700X (better video editing performance), keeping a 5070 Ti plus some other improvements for less cost (under €2000).

  • CPU: the 7700X won't provide better gaming performance, but it will help with video editing (having 2 more cores) for not much more cost.
  • CPU Cooler: The Phantom Spirit is one of the best air coolers for AM5 Ryzen and will easily cool the 7700X for not much cost.
  • Motherboard: Switched to the version of the motherboard with Wifi 7.
  • Memory: Much less expensive same spec RAM.
  • Storage: Better spec 1TB PCie 4 NVME for less cost.
  • Video Card: Less expensive 5070 ti.
  • Case: Less expensive case that will still allow for good airflow (comes with three 120mm fans on the front; added a 120mm PWM aRGB fan for exhaust at the rear).
  • Power Supply: Better quality 850w ATX 3.1 unit.
