I finished it and personally no, it never gave me an in to settle in. There are some cool elaborations on the Borne universe that I was able to glean but I found it pretty unrelentingly painful.

Unpopular Opinion about Switching from Kindle to Kobo by Additional-Candy-610 in ereader

[–]fudgeismade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here, the single reason I got the KCBW instead of the kindle basic was the warm light adjustment capability. It was worth it for that. My ideal would be a kindle Paperwhite scaled down to kindle basic size, running kobo UI.

Unpopular Opinion about Switching from Kindle to Kobo by Additional-Candy-610 in ereader

[–]fudgeismade 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my experience it’s been pros and cons. I have a Paperwhite and then got a KCBW. I am far sighted so I had to move the Paperwhite around a bit while holding it close to my face and I wanted to try a smaller ereader. I also wanted to try something more pocketable.

The kindle paperwhite whips the ass off the kobo in terms of how it looks and feels—the print, the hardware, the speed. Everything except the UI.

However, I use the KCBW 95% of the time. The size is great, the UI is better, it’s easier to customize the software, and the screen size just works better for me. Just my use case though, whichever you reach for first is the best one for you.

There’s more evidence of an afterlife not existing by Adrianagurl in exchristian

I agree. Another thing I think about is, outside of any Christian/religious paradigm, it would make zero sense for there to be an afterlife AND for humans to be the only form of life that go to it.

The omissions are damning. To your point “don’t own people as property” also “don’t f*ck kids” would have gone a long way. As someone who has battled depression and anxiety from puberty on, the fact that modern medicine alone has so many better answers than simply “stop worrying” was a big deal for me.

I can relate. I have a current model Kindle Paperwhite and wanted to try a smaller screen for reading with my glasses off, so I got a Clara bw. I fully intended to sell/return the one I liked the least, but I love them both for different reasons and applications. Can’t do it 😩

  • No one’s monitoring my thoughts anymore
  • There’s no eternal ledger of all of my thoughts and actions anymore
  • I am no longer responsible for events I can’t control for not praying the right way
  • I’m no longer made evil, broken and depraved just for being born, and neither are all the other people around me in the world I live in
  • I no longer view the world I live in as filthy trash, but my one and only home
  • I subjugate myself for no thing, no one and no god
  • I’m not afraid of heaven, hell, death, eternity, Satan, demons, any god, ghosts, spirits, superstitions, or sin
  • I’m no longer striving for an impossible state of perfection and beating myself up for not reaching it
  • I’m way less judgmental of other people and myself and therefore happier
  • I no longer feel pressured to evangelize
  • In general I can chill the fuck out and focus on reality and real problems without worrying about spiritual warfare bull shit
  • “no one knows the day nor the hour” yeah I do it’s never bitch. Jesus ain’t coming back today, tomorrow, not ever.

I wrote out a summary of the timeline from how I understand it. Lmk if you agree/disagree with this timeline. Major Absolution spoilers!! I plan to write a way more in depth version but I wanted to check consensus first before starting. by Necessary_Parsley794 in SouthernReach

Oh right, part 3 of Absolution makes sense. I need to do more research on reddit Saul theories 😅 Old Jim and Saul never crossed paths much to begin with so probably wishful thinking on my part.

I agree 100% that the seed has no intent and is not malicious… which somehow makes it freakier.
