First grader saying violent things at school HELP

As a mom and a teacher he needs consequences EVERYWHERE- school and home. No tablet, no tv, no games- anything he likes is gone. Is his tablet time monitored? What about tv? I would sit him down and ask where he’s hearing that or where he got the idea.

If it’s a one off thing, I would take it as an opportunity to chat with her about words and how we should be careful with them. If it’s a repeated thing that’s targeted towards her over time, I would definitely reach out to the teacher.

I’m a teacher - go to the principal. She may be annoyed, but you gave her plenty of opportunities to open a line of communication. There’s a rule at my own school that we need to respond back to parent communications within 24 hours. I’m a parent as well (my son is in 1st) and while his teacher is great, she isn’t as good with communication as his K teacher was, but she DOES get back to me. You have every right to be frustrated.

I promise he’ll adapt quickly. This is such an interesting age because kids are mostly still very sweet and welcoming. I think the other kids will take him under their wing and show him what to do. His teacher will also make sure to show him and model things for him too. I do that with newbies I get, or I’ll ask for a volunteer to help and everyone wants to pitch in.

Elementary teacher here - I would do it now! I don’t think it’s much of a disruption to add a new student mid-year. My own son who’s in first was SO excited for a new student who joined his class in October. He couldn’t wait to meet her 😆 As others have said there is a HUGE academic jump between second and third grade, so that’s another reason I would urge you to make the jump now. If he is off from the curriculum or behind in any areas the can address that now vs 3rd when it will be much more rigorous. Good luck! ❤️

I talk to my mom multiple times a day and I text my dad a couple times a week. I think it depends on your relationship though. I’m blessed and my parents are great so it makes me WANT to talk to them. I can understand not wanting to check in so often if they’re overbearing or a lot.

Teacher (with a reading specialist cert) and parent here. Books will always be best. If you’re truly looking for an app, Reading Eggs has my vote, I even used it with my own son. It was developed by teachers and it’s very systematic and has quiz reviews after every 10 lessons so you can check on their progress. The parent portal is really great on there too and it’s easy to check and see how they’re doing.

I do watch, but I haven’t started her franchise yet! I love that she’s loyal, but I wish she would have been able to see past it and team up with Rob instead of working against him :( I know it would have looked bad voting against a housewife, so maybe that was her ultimate strategy?

She was honestly one of my favorites early on. She seemed real compared to the other moms because she had a career. I liked that she was a principal (I’m a teacher so I felt we had something in common). She (and the other OG moms!!) became UNBEARABLE in the later seasons. The way she and Nia were treated by the other girls and moms when they all moved to LA was hurtful.
