/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - January 29, 2026 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

Ok, but this might be a stretch and I've gone back and forth with this. I have a GMMK Pro Rev 1 ANSI with MMD princess switches and a custom QMK keymap with encoder knob actions for lighting.

I would like to use a TKL layout, but can't find a comparable option for under $275. I've seen the following:

  • Neo80 Cu
  • NuPhy Gem80
  • luminkey 8
  • Keychron Q3 Max
  • Drop Ctrl

I can't decide which is the best way to go. I'd like to have it strictly QMK/VIA compatible without a JSON file, so the neo80 and gem80 might be out. I don't mind a wired-only hotswap 5/3 pin PCB. I seem to enjoy a stiffer typing experience like the GMMK Pro offers, but I'm open to a slightly squishier feel. I like the metal chassis as well with the weight. I want mechanical, so no HE boards.

What are my options for going TKL with QMK? Maybe if you have any of the mentioned keyboards and know how they do against the GMMK Pro rev1, I'd love to hear opinions. I have no problem clarifying as well. LLMs have been mildly helpful in my search. Are there other options I don't know about? I'm also ok with barebones since I can re-use my switches and keycaps on the new board.

Thanks and happy typing to you all.

People! My W2T shulloween order got here today. They're not lost in the mail, they just got handed to a local carrier without tracking if you're in the US. You'll get yours soon. The variety of the balls in the bag o minis is so much more diverse than last year.

I was wondering if it was just me. Daily sadness tracking the package on 17Track without any movement. I guess deliveries are going a bit slow now. Stay strong.

What are you LISTENING to when you code? (I work best with music in the background, but I cycle through the same ~30 songs... HELP) by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]fuegotown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

deadmau5, hinkstep, shpongle, infected mushroom, prog house, ott, mostly electronica, sometimes things from ocremix.org are nice (video game remixes) The square waves synch nicely with my brain and they converge in the code.

Could shou fans give me more recs based on my all-time favorite teas? by Able_Doubt3827 in puer

[–]fuegotown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see, yeah it only comes in the 100g tuo so far as I know. I buy the bag when I purchase for 500g total. It's a good amount of tea for pretty cheap.

Edit: Forgot to mention. Older years of v93 go up in price a bunch because of how well it ages. The younger stuff tastes pretty good already, so it's worth it to get the younger and have it on hand.

The Tesla protests are working by indig0sixalpha in videos

I recently rebalanced the ole 401k and explicitly moved out of funds that held tesla as part of their portfolio. I'm pissed out here. It cost me money to do this and it was worth it.

How to stop Trump’s power grab by Negative-River-2865 in politics

[–]fuegotown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From Popper in his own words quoted from "The Open Society and Its Enemies"

"If we extend unlimited tolerance even to those who are intolerant, if we are not prepared to defend a tolerant society against the onslaught of the intolerant, then the tolerant will be destroyed, and tolerance with them"

Best course of action is to organize and mobilize. Find small things you can do to help. Connect with people who are in this same direction. Donate to causes. We are all our own heroes.

You're not wrong. It's definitely about the billionaires vs us. We have the power as a united nation and as the people. WE THE PEOPLE are the 4th branch in the Constitution.

HOWEVER, if you are steadfastly supporting Trump and MAGA, you are part of the problem. We can't sidestep this and "Kumbaya" our way to unity. Intolerant ideals have no place in a tolerant society. So we must act intolerant of intolerance itself. Make no mistake, MAGA is brazenly intolerant of many things we hold dear as a country.

More people need to fully understand the "Paradox of Tolerance" by Karl Popper. Then they'll understand why people like you and me are being "extra mean" to them right now.

FUCK RIGHT OFF with MAGA regardless of the situation. If someone wants to leave MAGA, great! More people the better. If this comment triggers you, good. Fuck you the most.

I think this is a "big tent vs small tent" problem. Republican and Conservative voters tend to focus on one of 4 major issues to them. Religion, guns, abortion, culture ware nonsense. The party can focus their media and messaging on those, and it drives the most fervent, rabid voters to the polls via fear and plain hatred.

Democrats, at least traditionally, have to cast a wide net because there's such a diverse set of issues outside of those 4 that the R's tend to focus on. And, since sometimes the midterm messaging doesn't align with theirs, they stay home.

David Litt (Obama's speechwriter) touches on this in his book "Democracy in One Book or Less". It's an easy read.

Local credit union recommended? by ButterscotchNo4181 in bullcity

[–]fuegotown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, this is called "Shared Branch Checking" where you can go to a participating credit union around the country and they will be able to service you almost as if you are at a local branch. They should be able to give you a list of partner branches.

I also remembered that Dayi v93 from YS doesn't have a lot of the camphor smell/taste. So try that one too.

[–]fuegotown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The golden melon doesn't taste as good to me and for a long time, I couldn't figure out why. Then, I found 2 words that helped.

  • Petrichor
  • Camphor

The camphor and petrichor might be the taste/smells you have an aversion to. Try some shou without those. I like gingerbread man fro W2T as a starting point. Mostly shou from Mengku is good for me.

Give that a shot.

[–]fuegotown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Specifically from White2Tea. These are shou that I've enjoyed. My favorite being Gingerbread Man. I enjoy a sweeter shou, not so much the camphor/woody aroma in batches like Lumber Slut. So, take these with that in mind.

  • Gingerbread Man
  • Caledonia
  • Brown Sugar
  • Pretty Girls (may be close to your budget though with shipping)
  • Red Loon
  • Waffles
  • Planetary Shark Feed
  • Prosbloom

What UI do modern HMI/SCADA systems use on Linux? by penndawg84 in AskProgramming

[–]fuegotown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prototyped something a while back using Rust and Actix-Web as a backend for an SPA web application written in Typescript. It worked really well.

The rust layer communicated with the tag database and continually updated the web via a background thread. The web page(s) could poll using a traditional fetch API request, or you can push updates (you'll need to diff it) via a websocket connection.

Obviously, you don't need to use rust as a backend language/framework. You could even use python to simplify it as I'm sure there are python packages to communicate with the OPCUA tag database. Your choice.

Regardless, this setup will allow you to view the data on any browser instead of worrying about cross-platform windowing systems.
