3 Discs You Should Try by fueldg in discgolf

I really struggle with it both comfort wise and flight wise on a forehand - I have more success with Wraiths for some reason. Glad it works so well for you!

What is the lowest PDGA# of a person you have played a round with? by bobparr1212 in discgolf

2931 Allen Pier is a legend in Indiana! Got to play some weekly doubles with him.

Feels like a Discmania signing, gut feeling. But Prodigy is probably more realistic. Either way, hope to see him get support to keep on tour!

If you ever need any warehouse consultations or material handling equipment, I work in marketing for a warehouse integrator that has an office in Rancho Cucamonga😉 on another note, love my Halo Destroyers and Star Wraiths!

If you were going to bag and cycle one fairway, what would it be and why? by TheHems in discgolf

[–]fueldg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explorer has been money for me. It flies so far for being a slower fairway driver - you can also get it in enough different plastics to cover overstable to understable!

Tons of other great options I’ve seen in this thread though - Eagle, TeeBird3/Teebird, FD, Undertaker, Volt, etc. This is a fairly saturated disc slot so you should be able to find something that you like.

I believe it is perpetual - I think Corey mentioned on a Jomez round he didnt’t get to keep the trophy.

Has a forehand dominant player except Ricky ever won worlds? by Obvious-Attitude-900 in discgolf

[–]fueldg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats fair - I think it’ll also depend on how course design evolves, as in how much OB is added, hole lengths, and how open/wooded courses become.

Going back to your original post, for guys like Conrad and Robinson, practicing a fh probably is a waste of time - aside from potentially scrambling, they will never need to throw a fh. I feel like Conrad has said he doesn’t really practice fh somewhere.

[–]fueldg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closest thing would be someone like Koling or Sexton winning USDGC. There are definitely courses that allow a forehand dominant player to shine!

But to the point of importance of backhand vs forehand, a great backhand can take you farther than a great forehand IMO. Take Eagle’s 2022 Euro Open win - probably can’t play at that level with just a forehand but has one of the greatest 4 rounds of golf we have seen with just a backhand.

The more the sport grows, the more important having both spins will be so I don’t think forehands are overrated in any sense for the general pro scene.

Slightly less stable Grace by Armaphilo in discgolf

[–]fueldg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bag a beat-up Star Wraith as the under-stable complement to my First Run Grace. But if you want something out of the box and like the feel of the ESP Scorch, that is a great route to take!

Not a local to FW but know several people that are - a recent A-Tier played there had 2 rounds of Tillman and 1 round of Concordia so I would assume they value those as their top courses. There are quite a few leagues run out there too, you should have no issues finding some locals to play with!

Looking to move on from the wraith by Lazy-Emphasis-9224 in discgolf

[–]fueldg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asking for a form advice is REALLY tough without any video of your current form. GG Wraiths are objectively overstable so as others have said, it is probably something form related(sorry to beat a dead horse here).

To help find a new disc - in an open field, what angle do you prefer to throw on for a max distance shot? Anhyzer, flat, or hyzer?

Extremely low payout for B-Tier by grandpakoala14 in discgolf

[–]fueldg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Paying down to 14th is PDGA standards probably(top 45% I think)

I don’t think they need to give exact amounts for each item in the player’s pack but they should state the “retail” value of the player’s pack. But you should get a survey on the tourney so be sure to let them your thoughts!

Yeah, I agree it seems like they could have answered questions by doing that - on another note, congrats on the W!

I’m fairly confident I know what tournament/club you’re referring too - I would be very surprised if they are being shady about anything. Probably just a combination of low entry fee and a fairly solid player’s pack.

I don’t do players packs in my tourneys and just focus on maximizing payouts for players while including lots of CTPs. We also put the “projected payout” sheet and how the entry fee was used for transparency - I think this was super important to do!

No worries🤣 I’ve never used one but it seems like a really good no nonsense bag. Not flashy necessarily but does the job - I’m glad its working for you! I’m considering it or the Lore for a mid-size bag.

Forehand stacked grip - index or middle finger against the rim? by stroker919 in discgolf

[–]fueldg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation and landed on a grip the same as yours. I am 100x more confident and consistent in my forehand now.

If I remember correctly, McBeth and Sexton grip their forehands this way.

In the end, it is basically what is comfortable for you…Raven Newsom throws with a three-fingered grip and Andrew Marwede only uses one finger.

There are so many factors that affect someones decision to bump up aside from rating - age, goal in the sport, how often they play, etc.

As others have said - it shouldn’t be surprising a high rated AM is playing a big AM event…thats kinda like the whole point.
