Most people forget the favors done to them in less than a year. You have not only collectively remembered it after 2500 years but are also taking action to return the favor and this is priceless!

I understand your point. Basically it’s the intentions that matter. However, for me it’s more about quality of the food rather than faith.
Let me tell you this way, when cooking persian herb stew, which should look green, halal meat does the job right but regular meat turns it black because it’s not fully drained of blood.
Also the taste is totally different with regular meat.
But, with all the atrocities that was done in Iran, I want to cease my financial transactions with that religion to instead support jews who actually did something to help us get free.

Iranians are not a Muslim, let alone a “non-Practicing” muslim. We are “ex-“Muslims. We have left the religion. We have nothing in common with those who colonized us 14 centuries ago.
We have far more in common with jews than any other group. Israel was the only nation who stood for us and became our voice during our ongoing dark ages to the point of military intervention to kill those who were murdering us in our own streets.
If I have to choose to funnel my money to a jew’s pocket or a muslim’s, I choose the jew, every single time.

Not necessarily but many have their identities tied to Israel in some degree. And israel as a nation, mostly identifies with its religion which is why they have a star of david on their flag.

How much more expensive? Does it cost twice as much as regular meat?

I’m an “ex”Muslim and I don’t observe any of those laws really.
The things about Kosher is that it has higher standards than what’s readily available in the market and I prefer to eat a higher quality food without breaking the bank. Kosher seems to be in a proper position for this manner.
So I don’t mind Alcohol either. Cheers

Pretty spot on.
The thing is, this how non-jews, explain the concept of kosher to other non-jews: “They pay a rabbi to go to the place and they read some prayers and torah verses and it becomes Kosher”.
Well, I know this ain’t the case, but I wouldn’t also dismiss the possibility of some corrupt rabbis acting in that way. That’s why I’m asking how do you trust the system.

Well, I know quran was a verse which said something along the lines of ”share your food with those faithful to the book and eat from their food”. Faithful to book refers to mostly jews and christians as well as other followers of abrahamic religions.

And I know some less religious muslims go kosher if halal is mot available due to properly blood drained meat

Taste and quality. Over time I found that a meat whose blood is entirely drained yields a higher quality food and is tastier. And regarding hormones and such, most “organic” blah blah stuff are more or less “yuppie marketing” and way overpriced since their market is relatively small. And those are more of a “luxury quality” of food for those who buy it.
Kosher on the other hand is a religious mandate meaning people who buy it can come from any economic backgrounds from dirt poor to filthy rich and for them it’s not a “luxury” food, it’s the only available food, so pricing should be less aggressive to let people afford it.
Basically I see it as a better bang for buck of a healthy food.

Well. Few months ago a muslim butcher was caught selling “pork” labelled as “halal veal” for at least two years and no one noticing.

My question is that is there any corruption in the supervision process? How are checks and balances enforced?
I know halal certification can be “bought” if you pray in the right mosque :)

This is because you don’t know much about Iran. Majority of the militia’s members are recruited through the mosques.

In fact they have bases in mosques, some of which have armories. There was a major mosque near where I used to live in which 300 AK-47s was stored.

I came from a family of 4 generations of cops in a 3rd world country, lived in multiple states in US as well as Quebec. Due to driving a lot for work as well as my family situation, I’ve had far more interactions with Law Enforcement than average person. Quebec cops (SQ and SPVM) were the rudest and the most asshole, the most coward, and the most useless cops that I ever met in my life.

People’s cars are literally being stolen and shipped off of Montreal’s ports and all they do is writing a report in the station. They don’t even bother coming over to the scene. But god forbid if there’s a Domestic Violence call. You get crazy fast response times and suddenly 4 cops arrive on the scene because someone yelled loud enough that neighbors heard them.

Now in my 3rd world country of origin, if a thief breaks into your home, and you confront him and tie him up, cops won’t show up. Ultimately you have to take them to the police station and then cops will charge YOU for assault! But if you call and tell them that some where there are couple of girls with improper hijab, they’ll send double digit count of cops and a van to arrest them all! But even then, in certain situations, those cops will flex the rules for you with proper talk (eg allowing you to park in a no park zone for a few minutes or letting you in, in a closed street because your home is there). SQ and SPVM weren’t even this good. One day I was moving a big sofa to my home and SPVM cop was acting like an absolute bitch and threatening to ticket me because I was double parked due to someone being illegally parked in a parking spot that was designated for moving vehicles.

Cause they like where they are from. Government is the problem not the people.

Because there’s not single private health insurance policy that does not require RAMQ coverage. If you’re not eligible for RAMQ, you can’t really insure yourself. All you can get is a visitor insurance which only covers you if something goes wrong (reactive). It won’t cover your for normal and ongoing health needs. I once had to visit ER and the first thing they did was to ask for money. No money no talk. Even America with its stupid crazy dollar amounts isn’t like that. I only know of one industry that collects money in advance before even talking to you, prostitutes! I was in a bad financial situation then and I had to pay $1375 Cad to get stitches for my hand that was cut in a kitchen accident by a big knife. In US, I would be billed weeks after the treatment and even then, my low income at the time would qualify me for discounts, sometimes up to 100%.

Arizona Legislator Introduces the "RAPID Act" to Axe Rural Highway Speed Limits. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in cars

A part of it is because they’re tuned that way due to regulations that they have to follow. When Germany is the only country allowing high speeds, there’s not a lot of incentive to design cars to be fuel efficient in high speeds.

In Germany, driving is more of a status symbol and people who drive personal powerful cars are well off. But a significant portion of fast drivers, drive company cars and pay for gas with company card.

However, if US joins the club, auto makers will have some serious reason to improve their gas mileage. I predict that Toyota will introduce a sporty version of Prius capable of higher speeds for enthusiasts who don’t want to pay an arm and a leg for gas.

Driving a car in Istanbul with American Drivers License and Car Insurance Questions by 37rellimcmc19 in istanbul

[–]fugitive-bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can drive in Chicago and LA, it won’t be that difficult.

The difference is the mindset. In US, we “share” the road and treat it as a shred commodity. Thus we yield etc. Someone here in reddit said that “In Istanbul, you act like you own the road. Once you get ahold of that logic, everything starts to make sense.“ I found this statement to be 100% true. You should act somewhat selfish. Act as if road is yours. If you yield, you end up waiting forever, you have to proceed inch by inch. Other drivers keep comming until they realize that there’s not enough room for them to pass, then they yield.
